Judging from the weather report, Spring will be in full effect this weekend, with highs in the 70’s, along with a rain shower on Saturday night.
We have events up for this weekend on our calendar, but here are some additional activities worth checking out.
West Side Rag columnist Laura Weiss wrote on her blog Food and Things: “If you’re shopping at Fairway Saturday, you can get free samples and watch some demos by the supermarket’s chefs and other food experts. No, there’s no demo of how to avoid mixing it up with the market’s famously aggressive shoppers.” There will be stations preparing cheese, international coffees, Hereford shell steaks, asparagus pasta, salads, pancakes with maple syrup and shrimp salad.
In addition, the West Side Community Garden is holding its annual Tulip Festival on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. “The West Side Community Garden is a not for profit, all-volunteer Garden located at 135 West 89th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues in Manhattan. Subways: B/C to 86th Street or 1/2/3 to 96th.” The group will hold free tours at 1 and 3 p.m.
And the group is holding a photo contest for pictures of the garden. For more details, check out their site.

Chefs at Fairway? A good idea…except when one of their primos sets up splat on Broadway across from the entrance. Instant gridlock and if that’s not enough, one still has to run the gauntlet of some of the rudest delivery and stocking people ever spawned since Lucy stood up.
