Film production is back, and a new HBO show set in the 1880s is shooting in Central Park. The show ‘Gilded Age’ was filming around the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park in the low 70s on Thursday, according to Sally Martell, who took the photo above. It was created by Julian Fellowes, who was also behind Downton Abbey.
It stars Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and many other top actors. The show follows “young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Union general, who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook. Accompanied by Peggy Scott, an accomplished African-American woman, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George and Bertha Russell.”
I passed by and asked one of the friendly guards what they were filming. He told me it was called The Gilded Age. “You know Downtown Abbey?” he continued. “It’s based on that.”
As I thanked him and detoured around the area, I thought that Downtown Abbey actually would be a good title for a period show set in NYC.
The Gilded age…could be a period piece or a contemporary story honestly lol
I’m so GLAD da Rona hasn’t stolen our sense of humor.

For how long will filming be taking place? And, are they still looking for extras?
