This squirrel lugged a bagel up a tree by the stairs at 79th Street in Riverside Park. Kristina, who was dragged to the park by her dog Button Peck and saw the squirrel scramble up the tree with its bounty, commented that it was “so perfectly Upper West Side.”
It’s just the latest animal to try to steal the glory from “pizza rat.”

Oh, Poor Little Guy!!
WHAT, NO “SHMEAR”!?!
And it looks like just a plain bagel, not the NYC classic…an EVERYTHING.
Well, hopefully it was at least a Fairway bagel…oooh, or maybe a Zabar’s ?
I love it!
Somebody get that squirrel some lox and cream cheese!
Just curious but why are these guys so loved and those rats are so hated? Basically the same thing, right? just a bushy-er tail and a cuter face.
Haha. And rats are smarter, too🐀
My friend from Sweden was visiting and she had no problem with the rats but she literally ran out of the playground screaming when a squirrel jumped on our bench. She’d never seen one before, lol.
Some like their bagels unadorned!
Quintessential NY squirrel!
It is a beautiful photograph. Thank you!
