Move, Feel & Look Better With Our New Stretching Class.
There will be a new stretching class beginning on Monday, December 12 @ 5:45 pm with our star instructor Meghan Lee. Meghan will tailor each stretch based upon your fitness level and any orthopedic concerns. This class will teach you the most important stretches to help improve your posture and prevent aches and pains.
Tai Chi class is on Tuesdays at 12pm.
Studies have shown including Tai Chi to your workout program are numerous. Because of the slow, meditative approach to movement, some people question or dismiss it as an exercise modality since the aerobic component is not high. You should not dismiss it, however, simply because you might not break a sweat doing it.
The intensity of this form of exercise can be increased or decreased based upon the depth of the postures and the duration of the practice. It is certainly a low-impact form of exercise which is beneficial to people with existing joint pain and to people that want to prevent joint issues. Some of the benefits of Tai Chi are increased energy and stamina, improved balance, flexibility and agility, improved sleep, reduction in joint pain and a reduction of falls as you age.
The Strength Secret Most People Ignore!
Do you want to walk, climb steps, run or stand up from a chair easier and faster? Do you want to prevent pain in your hips, knees and low back? If the answer is yes, then start to pay attention to your buttock muscles.
Most people over the age of 50 never really take time to train their buttock muscles. Exercising your buttock muscles aren’t just for the twenty-something looking to fill out a pair of jeans or looking to attract the opposite sex. Training the buttock muscles is actually even more important as you age. Keeping your buttock muscles strong is so important that there is even a term coined “glute amnesia”. This is when your buttock muscles fall asleep and can no longer do their job in supporting the body.
The buttock muscles are responsible for preventing your knees from collapsing in/out when walking or standing up from a chair, they stabilize your hips and act as a shock absorber to your spine. They also help you perform functional activities with more ease, like walking up the steps, getting up from a chair, jumping and playing tennis and golf.
You might think if you’re incorporating squats and lunges you have the buttock muscles covered, but that would be a mistake. Initially the buttock muscles need to be isolated with exercises like bridges, clams and lateral walks. These exercises really focus on targeting and waking up the buttock muscles.
If you’re serious about being the best you can be, the Silver Stars Fitness program is the first step to slowing the aging process to a crawl. Contact us and we will show you how 65 can really be the new 45!
