3 ARRESTED AFTER NANNY ROBBED IN CENTRAL PARK

A nanny pushing a stroller was assaulted and robbed in Central Park near 86th Street on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m., according to police, who later arrested three teenagers for the crime.

The three suspects shoved the nanny to the ground and stole her purse, before fleeing the scene, police told the Daily News. Neither the nanny nor the infant she was strolling were injured, the News reported.

She gave police a description of the suspects and they were spotted near 85th and Columbus. Police caught two of them — a 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl — there and chased the third — also a 19-year-old man — up 17 flights in a building at 83rd and Broadway before arresting him.

It’s not clear if they’re also connected to other recent robberies in the park.

“Midnight is 12:00am.”

No, midnight is 12:00 midnight, it is neither AM nor PM. There is a “12:01” AM but there is no such time as “12:00 AM”.

Independent, you are incorrect.
Midnight is the am. The final
minute of pm begins @ 11:59p and
once the clock strike 12 it’s the morning.

What part is good news? The fact that a nanny with a child was mugged by 3 kids in the middle of the day?

I am glad that the perps were apprehended and the woman and child, unhurt.

Good one, NYPD.

Growing up in the UWS, I was taught by my parents to respect my teachers; obey an officer’s command; and respect the elderly. In today’s world, teachers get assaulted by their pupils; the youth disobey an officer’s directive; and for the most part , , , have no respect for the elderly, nevertheless, their own parents.

This brazen attack, in the middle of the day, shows that our kids don’t care. Where is the 14 yr old’s mom/dad?

Maybe if you grew up getting Stopped and Frisked by the police for absolutely no reason regularly, your privileged view of the world might be different.

The same parents that don’t care that their 14 year old girl is hanging out with 19 year old men (assuming they are not related)?

Yes, if there’s one plus to this story, it’s that it’ll separate this young girl from the older men who are almost certainly taking advantage of her, thus giving her a tiny chance of getting to sixteen without having a kid of her own. Her parents certainly don’t seem to give a damn what happens to her.

You liberal-liberal Liberals, sow it sow it and then we all reap it.

Any act of violence should be punished strongly. Even if we have to build larger prisons, it is far better to incarcerate violent criminals then to have them roaming around after dealing them down on account of “under resourced” upbringings.

I used to give these people more room in every argument possible, until my aunt was assualted. It will change you.

@dannyboysboy, you said it perfectly. The reason we allow this to happen is that nobody thinks it is going to happen to them. Most of these criminals will commit MANY more crimes and assaults before they are done. I say two violent crimes and you are in jail FOR LIFE, no parole.

This story is a perfect example of what I was just saying….

These kids and these types of crimes were a DAILY occurrence in the 80’s. I know, I remember, I saw it first hand. Almost every day.

The reason I bring this up is to point out that the sky isn’t falling…on the contrary, things are getting much much better.

It will never be perfect. Also this is not a race issue, as many of you will insist. This is very simply about class. These kids don’t go to Columbia Prep, Collegiate or Trinity. They go to P.S. whatever

Educate yourselves. I’m looking at one of you in particular. You know who you are. This isn’t about blacks and Hispanics, it’s about kids….kids whose parents don’t drive BMW SUV’s.

I grew up in the city in the 70s and went to Trinity. I work now for an organization that helps kids who more likely go to “PS whatever.” Kids are kids, and all of them, rich or poor, struggle. I would come down much harder on the 19-year-old, and look for appropriate solutions for the 17- and 14-year-old. Inexcusable all around, but let’s not fool ourselves: I would hate to see the videotape of my teenage years here in the city.

Really? rich kids and poor kids both struggle with the same issues?? in NYC? hmmmmm

OK, whatever you say. So, parents…don’t send your kids to Trinity is what we have learned here:)

@MonkMonkstein, I too have lived here a long time, since the 70’s. Things were worse than now, but not that much worse actually, at least not on the UWS. Yes, crime in the poorer areas was MUCH worse, but I personally feel that things are sliding very fast toward the free for all that it once was. If you read the details of these assaults, you get the feeling that the perpetrators have very little fear of getting caught. This stuff is brazen, and not a good sign for the future. Deblasio has created an environment where criminals feel much freer to roam with weapons and the criminals are starting to realize that there really aren’t many cops around at all and that nobody is really watching. It’s going to be a slippery slope from here, believe me.

Carb – maybe the pendulum with swing the other way. Maybe the next mayor will be tough as nails. Stop and frisk for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Steep penalties for violent crimes. An environment of heavy policing.

Not sure if there will be such a candidate though…

Solution: Commit two violent crimes and you are in jail for the rest of your life, no parole. Watch crime plummet. And yes, it will plummet if for no reason other than those that are in for life will not be committing any other crimes.

It’s the perfect solution for the conservative person.

Declare absolutes.
Suspend thought.
Act on reflex.
Respond based on fear.
Rinse and repeat.

@Mark, you speak like a real modern liberal; insult and name-call, avoid any discourse lest you “normalize” others with differing views. At all costs, act as if differing views are ridiculous on their face and simply uttering them is sufficient to win arguments.

Your strategy doesn’t work that well unfortunately (ask Hillary), but it does give you that SUPERIOR feel, all warm inside I bet.

@GB – I see you are displaying for conservative ideals.

When a conservative “says it like it is” and a liberal complains – the liberal is just too politically correct.

When a liberal “says it like it is” and a conservative complains – the conservative is upset at name calling and insults.

Thanks for reminding us of who the real snowflakes are.

i don’t think Mark engaged in any “insults” or “name calling” in his first post above, unless you consider the word “conservative” to be name-calling.

In the second post, arguably “snowflakes” was name-calling. though it was obviously an ironic reference to the vast number of names popular with the right wing used to discredit those of us who are progressive or left.

Wow! This would not be a world that most of us would want to live in. Sounds like some kind of futuristic police state. Or like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone.

Trust me, as someone who spent many many years working in the criminal justice system. This is an awful, not to mention unconstitutional, idea.

I understand you are scared but we are not willing to forego our right to freedom and liberty for the mere appearance of more security.

NYC might not be the place for you, my friend. Plenty of nice “safe” places all over the US. I hear Boca is nice.:)

How dare she go to the park in the middle of the day? Doesn’t she know that our parks belong to muggers and thugs? Thank you, Mayor de Blasio, for ensuring that even infants are not safe from criminals.

Let me add my trivia to the great a.m. / p.m. controversy. A.M stands for “ante-meridian” (BEFORE noon); P.M. stand for “post-meridian” (AFTER noon). So there can be NO meaningful 12 a.m. nor 12 p.m. since meridian means noon. There is either a 12 noon or a 12 midnight.

I was around W. 83rd Street right after this unfolded. I asked a woman who saw it what had happened. She told me that there were lots of police cars that converged there – so many, in fact that she thought something really big had happened. So it’s a bit surprising to hear that all these police cars and policemen were chasing three muggers.

Perhaps the budget for the disproportionately high number of police could be shifted to hiring more teachers.

That could help break the cycle of crime.

Has anyone else noticed that while some posts/ topics in the WSR receive neutral reflective comments, there are others which immediately seem to generate a polarized accusatory tone?
What about all of us taking a step back before we label commenters/ others into the 2 predictable camps of conservatives and liberals? How limiting and unhelpful is
that! All through this rough last year of political insanity I see this trend being all too common—to no one’s benefit. It seems there is little room for one to opt for views which are independent of the expected “package”….e.g., I did vote for Hillary but I think Obama care is ill conceived at best. And I don’t think an evening at the theatre was a venue where Mike Pence should be hearing political opposition.

Wouldn’t it be more helpful not to channel divisiveness as an knee jerk response? We are all in this together. And “We vs. Them” is actually just Us vs. Us!! (That last commenter you criticized could likely be the person you held the elevator for yesterday at Fairway!)

And a word about our UWS schools…What is the implication of labeling a school “PS whatever!” Our son went all through West Side public schools and we interacted for many years with all the other UWS schools’ families constantly in soccer and baseball, all through to gradeschool middle school and highschool. One does not learn solid values only at private schools or a “special UWS school” (nor even get accepted in the best colleges and universities!), and it is extremely biased to attribute negative values /behavior just to public school kids, period.

A quote from Kritsta Tippett in this week’s Time magazine may be applicable (setting aside any label you may have for her):
“Can we figure out what questions we have in common if we don’t have answers, and let those be the tools with which we think about how we create the world we want our children to inhabit?”
We ARE all in this together..and the Upper West Side is filled with everyday people whose wants and needs have far more in common than not.
