Pope Francis is coming to New York from Thursday, Sept. 24 to Saturday, Sept. 26, and several streets will be closed to accommodate the huge crowds that are expected. Here’s the list of streets that will be closed around Central Park for his Friday visit.

Where can you go to see the Pope travel to Central Park? I don’t have a ticket, but is there a place you can even get a glimpse of the Pope?

Someone in my building gave me a ticket. Seeing the Pope in person was inspirational.

Just what the neighborhood needs…..a commie-pope, the UN circus and an all female cast of ghostbusters. All that’s missing is a meteor strike.

I was thinking that all that’s missing is a GOP candidate debate.

It would be useful if the MTA got its act together and provided some information about buses on that day. I assume the M10 won’t be running (or will be running on some other road than CPW), but what about (e.g.) the M66 or the M72? The page on the MTA website which is supposed to allow you to plan for this (https://web.mta.info/nyct/service/events/PopeFrancisVisit2015.htm) is completely useless. The Pope’s schedule has been known for weeks – doesn’t the MTA know yet what they are going to do with the buses?

How about humility, as in not messing up the city and depriving people of their streets and park? And having the Catholic church pay for the spectacle. Tickets to get to Central Park! Even Vatican is free. What a circus.

Central Park is practically a corporate entity. In your lifetime, you will see the day when you are charged an admission fee to get in. It is not a people’s park anymore.

The most ridiculous part of this whole thing… The parking situation. I get that the streets near CPW are closed for a securirty reason. We all know how crazy the world is. But do you really need to enforce no parking east of columbus on Tuesday AT 1AM FOR A FRIDAY EVENT??. Fyi I saw a lot of cars in that area that are about to be towed in 1 hour. I saw the trucks lining up minutes ago. So if you have a car there, move it now. I had to look close to see that the signs say AM and not PM. Now ok maybe there is sommmme reason they need to be no parking this many days in advance (not sure what that is as the marathon doesn’t Ban parking days in advance), why the hell should alternate side parking still be in effect when the neighborhood loses 50ish % of the parking… Thank god for Yom Kippur for the end of the week (Wednesday thru friday). Btw I’m just being opportunistic/exploiting(probably too harsh)/capitalist (that’s the best one) of the holiday re parking.

Do you happen to know how far the parking ban extends? The information in the blog post suggests it could only be up to 77th or 81st, but did you see if it extends north?

Does anyone know if they will be stopping pedestrians from walking between Columbus and CPW? I operate a dog walking company on the UWS and we have several clients that live between these streets. A doorman told one of my walkers that the cops would be asking for ID’s to verify you live on the street in order to gain access? Anyone know what the procedure will be for getting to buildings between Columbus and CPW?

I don’t see any mention anywhere of official pedestrian blocks on streets. However, like with NYE, I would expect huge crowds and plan an alternative walking route in case the sheer number of people force NYPD to limit pedestrians on an ad-hoc basis on any particular street.
