NERDY CELEBRITY SIGHTING AT THE SMOOTHIE SHOP

I saw a celebrity this weekend, although it’s not the kind of celebrity sighting that ends up on TMZ or Access Hollywood. In fact, this celeb is from (gasp!) New Jersey. Yes, I saw Newark Mayor Cory Booker at my local smoothie shop on 72nd Street near Columbus. The very tall low-key mayor was seeing friends in the neighborhood, he said. I can’t say I know much about Newark politics, but the guy does seem to give a damn: he lived in the projects while he was on the city council. Imagine Mayor Mike living in the projects! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Cough, cough. Sorry I choked a little on my smoothie.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
