Are you a parent looking for a piano teacher to inspire your child, improve their sight-reading, or include modern styles as well as classical?
Are you an adult looking to further your lifelong love of music or pick up where you left off with previous lessons?
Are you a classical pianist interested in learning how to read chord symbols, understand music theory, or compose your own music?
Piano teacher Anna Dagmar is a new mother who has taught piano lessons on the Upper East and Upper West Sides for 15 years. She took last year off for maternity leave and is resuming teaching this fall at her own studio on the Upper West Side.
Dagmar holds a B.M. in Performance and Education from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied both classical and jazz piano. She is a composer in the Tony-Winning BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop and a two-time Gold Prize Winner of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.
A skilled performer whose repertoire includes thoughtful interpretations of Beethoven Sonatas, Gershwin standards, and original songs, Dagmar looks for connections between musical styles. She encourages students to imagine their repertoire from the composer’s perspective. Her upbeat personality shines through in her invention of numerous engaging music games that teach theory, reading and ear-training.
Dagmar strives to build on a student’s strengths, and gives concrete tools to help them overcome challenges. Her approach to technique is centered around relaxation, natural arm weight, efficiency and releasing tension. She sets performance and learning goals together with her students and emphasizes the importance of daily practice. Dagmar also offers optional performance opportunities for students throughout the year, including small group piano “salons,” the National Piano Guild, and a spring recital.
