Hide from the cold winds of spring at a new cafe, and upcoming clothing and juice spots on the Upper West Side. Meanwhile, a shoe store is nearly on its way out.
Cafe and pastry shop Paris Baguette has opened its doors on Broadway between 96th and 97th streets. “They did a beautiful job with the space. Lots of room to sit down in the back. Great selection. Really nice. Even better than their other locations. Happy to have them as a new neighbor. Also, I highly recommend their ‘pull bread.'” Thanks to Amy and Greg for the tips, and Greg for the photo.
Tani shoe store is in its last days at 2020 Broadway between 69th and 70th streets. It’s not yet clear what will replace it. Thanks to Susan for the tip and photo.
Juice Press is set to open in the former home of Crumbs at 76th street and Amsterdam. There are also locations on Columbus at 71st and 82nd. Thanks to Allison for the tip and photo.
Theory is set to open on Columbus between 70th and 71st streets in the former home of Helmut Lang, which closed quite suddenly about a week ago. We hear from one tipster it will be a men’s store. Thanks to Molly for the tip.
Theory and Helmut Lang are owned by the se parent company. That would make this a swift transition.
And Theory used to be in that space
I noticed the other day that Theory had replaced the Helmut Lang on Madison Ave. too.
How ironic that Juice Press is opening in the Crumbs space. Crumbs is a victim of overexpansion driven by the cupcake craze. Juice Press is overexpanding driven by the juicing craze. Difference is, I get why people eat cupcakes. I have no idea why people spend dozens of dollars for jars of green vegetable juice to “cleanse” their bodies of “toxins” by depriving them of necessary nutrients and calories, effectively paying money for the privilege of fasting. There’s zero science behind it.
I love green juice! Although I use it as an addition and not as a replacement. I agree that it’s super expensive…one can get a decent juicer for about the price of 12 store-bought bottles. Yum.
I can’t really abide the taste of green juice, although there are those that love it. However realize that much of the value of vegetables is the fiber, which is compromised in juices. And you can drink an awful lot more calories in juice than you can eat vegetables and fruits. Just sayin’
great new stores, best of luck to all.

Paris Baguette is a welcome addition to the Bloomingdale neighborhood! And their macaroons are great.
I thought Crumbs was bought by a new investor and was “coming back”? Guess not, huh?
Just some of the locations. I was in DC this weekend and saw one open Crumbs and one closed.
Not sure if this has been mentioned before but it looks like Birdbath Bakery is on the verge of opening a third Upper West Side location, Based on the map shown in the job listing, it would be their second Columbus Ave. location.

Birdbath Bakery? That is the worst name.
Have been to Birdbath yet! Have to check it out. Hope it’s not too seedy!… 😉
Hasn’t stopped their other locations from doing well, so apparently not.
