I am not picky when it comes to burgers, truly. I would eat a flavorless patty on a basic roll so long as it was doused in ketchup. But Bareburger’s Be-My-Burger was perhaps the farthest away from the previous description as a burger could be. With the option of juicy elk patties and fluffy, tasty brioche, this burger would have been delicious even without the wide assortment of condiments and sauces offered.
The Be-My-Burger is not a specific dish. It gives customers the option to choose between types of bread (including vegetable based rolls), cheese, types of patties, and add-ons. The patty options range from grass-fed bison to sweet potato, with many other meat and vegetarian choices. Customers can add simple toppings free of cost, or more extravagant ones, such as wild mushrooms, for an additional 75 cents. Additionally, Bareburger offers more than 10 types of sauces. Before walking in, I had never had a burger with smoke sauce, but, let me tell you, it was incredible.
Bareburger is a chain with more than 30 locations throughout the city and East Coast. Customers do not have to “choose between eating well and eating ethically,” according to its website. The restaurant aims to use only sustainable and organically sourced ingredients from suppliers and farms. In addition to burgers, Bareburger offers salads, fried chicken, and a wide variety of sides. “There’s only one dietary restriction” their website says. “You’ll be limited to…food that’s made to taste great!”
Bareburger’s team started creating burgers in 2002. Their initial kitchen was a “closet-sized” location at a Brooklyn music venue called Sputnik. In 2009, they converted an old bakery into a restaurant, and from there, despite challenges, they persisted and developed Bareburger into what it is today.
The Bareburger location on Columbus at 99th Street has a casual, but pleasant ambiance. In addition to one central table, there are many booths and decorations. Service is prompt and friendly.
The Be-My-Burger starts at $12.95, but the price ranges depending on added toppings and sauce.

The best hamburger’s on the Upper West Side in my opinion is the Sarabeth’s signature sirloin burger. $26.00 Yum-yum !
Elk? Bison?
“Doused in ketchup”??
Oy.
Vegetable based rolls…for your burger. I just can’t…phhtt
They are not vegetable based. They are vegan options meaning no eggs or dairy in the dough. BareBurger has excellent vegan options and is much appreciated for that. And their staff are very knowledgeable about allergies so if you have egg or dairy or wheat or soy, etc allergies, you should head over there. Yummy French fries too.
Oops. I just remembered. You can get your burger in a collard leaf wrap. I guess someone totally allergic or celiac might choose that. (Not me .)
