Opening public playgrounds would be foolish and dangerous.

Defunding the police would be foolish and dangerous.

Opening playgrounds means the kids can run in the water too cool off.

The other, well, I dont even want to imagine the consequences

Defunding the police sounds like a knee jerk reaction to appease a movement that no one has yet to completely define. It will destroy the morale of every cop (that’s 40,000 people) plus 3/4 of NYC like me. That’s 7 million more people. It is the 3rd worst idea I have ever heard (next to no bail & giving the mayor’s wife a billion $ that failed to achieve much). I will do everything I can to vote out of office anyone forcing good citizens of NY to live in fear by pulling essential police services so that more 92 yr old women can be thrown to the ground by thugs arrested 103x due to a weak City Council enforcement…& a vendetta against police.

Absolutely agree. Our current city government must be VOTED OUT. We are being led by insanity.

Look for an area that is too small for a police Dept. The state police will be in charge. I have found them highly professional.

Absolutely agree re police. Not throwing out that baby with the bathwater, thank you! I’m (a senior female,) not a doctor nor an epidemiologist so I won’t comment on playgrounds…

How do you feel about what happened to Eric Garner?

Eric Garner was resisting arrest.

9 unarmed black men were killed by police in 2019. 7,000 black men were killed by other black men. So we want to reduce police and remove anti-crime units from the streets?

This is the logic that only rich whites and blacks living on the UWS could embrace.

why do our pols –including Nadler–think 7pm is the ideal time for a meeting? That’s when we’re out the window cheering on our essentials!

WSR, you posted the flyer, but not the link to the registration. Are you expecting everyone to type in the long coded URL? You should always post the actual link.

I’d like to see videos on every street corner, very stiff penalties for convicted criminals (2 violent felonies and you are gone for life) and WAY MORE police. I’ve been here for 35 years and I can tell you that the city is turning into a scary place and it started before the pandemic. There were many of our students being mugged and assaulted, the Tessa Majors incident, etc. I’d like to see a news outlet go into a high crime area and ask the people THERE if they want more or less police around.

Agreed. It seems like the people telling us to defund etc are making feel like we need more police!

Corey may run for mayor. If you think the one we have now is bad, Corey will make our current mayor look like Einstein.

Absolutely true. All he wants is glory and to feed his insecurity. So obvious to see on a daily basis.

The term “defund” is misleading; my reading leads me to
Understand that the true action is “reallocating,” which
Seems more reasonable and less drastic.
