Summerstage, the concert venue inside Central Park near East 71st Street, underwent major renovations and will reopen soon with lots of new amenities.
The stage is bigger, there’s new bleacher seating, pathways have been rerouted so people don’t have to walk in front of the stage, and there are more bathrooms and VIP areas.
As for the schedule, there are multiple concerts almost every week starting June 1, from 70s soul, to Met Opera stars, to hip hop acts like Young M.A. Most concerts are free, though there are some paid benefit ones too, including a concert by George Clinton. See the full schedule here.
I’d imagine the new design is not an upgrade for the folks that sit out side on the lawn for free to listen to the music . Generally, upgrades to arenas , stadiums and various venues are designed to maximize dollars for the corporate spenders.
PS – I hope they keep delicious french fries that that served
What a treasure right here in our backyard
