Officer Dragged by Pedicab in Central Park: Reports

May 10, 2018 | 12:29 PM
in NEWS
18

A parks enforcement officer was injured on Wednesday after being dragged by a pedicab, police told the New York Post. The officer stopped the pedicab on West 66th Street and Central Park West around 1:10 p.m. to issue the driver a summons.

“The irate driver shoved the officer, and her radio became entangled in the bike’s wheels, officials said,” according to the Post. “The driver then took off, dragging the officer between 50 and 100 feet, according to the Parks Department. Cops were able to catch up with the driver, and took him into custody on charges of resisting arrest and obstruction of government administration, as well unspecified pedicab violations.”

The officer received treatment at Lenox Hill for cuts and bruises.

This is truly unbelievable. What is the process of screeening pedicab drivers? Understood that it is a very hard job, but there must be some process. This driver should have never been licensed.

Hope the police officer recovers soon.

You said that it is a hard job. Yes it is hard for people like me who pedal since 2000.these guys are all fake and illegal because they a hidden illgal electric motors. We are only four pedicab drivers who pedal from the 900 you see in the city. When I started in 2000, we use to be only 18 pedicabs and thanks to elzcteic motors these dudes can fake it that they pedal and lie to customers.
Rhe park need to let only the hard workers whobpedal because electric pedicabs are not pedicab, they are MotorcleCabs because PediCab means PedalCabs abd these guys don’t pedal and are dangerous for people walking and cycling in the park.

This is misleading. It was a Park Dept officer, not an NYPD officer. Why use an NYPD logo as the image for this article?

I don’t like the Pedicab drivers. They are so rude and they take advantage of all our tourist and they solicit all over Central Park. WHO’S BRIGHT IDEA WAS IT TO HAVE THEM IN CENTRAL PARK ANYHOW ???? They should all be banned from Central Park and all our parks. – BillyNYC

$3 a minute to fleece tourists. WTF? Ban these idiots. All they do is screw up traffic in parts of Manhattan that are already overly congested. Just tell these guys they need to find another way to make a living. Like flipping burgers. Allowing these pedicabs to roam the streets is the worst idea in transportation I’ve ever seen.

All of you PediCab haters get a life. They have more fun than you do. 😎. Just because of 1 mess up has nothing else to do with the rest. Believe me * they love life & love meeting peeps from all over the world. All you negative peeps just sit behind a computer ALL day & complain. Get a real life!!!

Gee thanks Colleen. If you call fleecing visitors from all around the world at a rate of $3-5 per minute having fun, I’d hate to be at one of your dinner parties!

If I ever became mayor of New York the first 3 things would go from the streets of New York are:
• pedicabs
• food vendors
• Uber
Whatever happened to our quality-of-life here in our great city of Manhattan.

Whenever the topic of licensing, and wondering who let “these people” (pedicab drivers) get to do what they do I often think of the question: “What do the Academy Awards presenters and politicians have in common? Why it’s their oft asked question; ‘The envelope please'”.
I’m not saying any hanky-panky is afoot, but then again we are where we are.

These guys are all fake and illegal because they use hidden illgal electric motors and huge batteries. We are only four pedicab drivers who pedal from the 900 you see in the city. When I started in 2000, we use to be only 18 pedicabs and thanks to electric motors these dudes can fake it that they pedal and lie to customers.
The park need to let only the hard workers who pedal because electric pedicabs are not pedicab, they are MotorcycleCabs because PediCab means PedalCab and these guys don’t pedal and are dangerous for people walking and cycling in the park.
Any pedicab you in the park is illegal because it ise powered by an electric motor according to the new city laws and the consumer affair. It shouldn’t be hard to check them, just look for the motor and the batteries.
