New Pickle Soft Serve from Lucky Pickle Is Being Called ‘The Answer to Your Pregnancy Cravings’

The new Lucky Pickle Dumpling restaurant at 513 Amsterdam Avenue (84th-85th) has all sorts of dumplings and noodles available, but the dish that’s getting all the buzz is its pickle-flavored soft serve. It’s infused with cucumber juice.

“Gross,” you say? Well, it has been getting some good reviews so far. And now one website, Babble, has taken a particularly interesting angle on the phenomenon.

When it comes to random pregnancy cravings, we’ve heard it all. Potato chips dipped in ketchup, sauerkraut on everything … you name it. And then of course, there’s the age-old pregnancy craving that still seems to be going strong: pickles and ice cream.

At least one restaurant in New York City is finally cashing in on the weird craving combo by creating soft serve pickle-flavored ice cream — and so far, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

If you’re pregnant and try it, let us know if it actually does the trick.

Full disclosure: Owner Jacob Hadjigeorgis gave us free samples of the stuff at a tasting last week. And we didn’t get pregnant, as far as we know.

It’s good – more like refreshing cucumber than pickles. But they give you WAY too much. Then again, all of Jacob’s (very good) restaurants tend to serve massive portions.

If you’d going to try this, I’d recommend just buying 1 and sharing it unless you plan on eating a ton of cucumber soft server. It’s not as “more-ish” as traditional flavors in my opinion but it is quite refreshing and interesting. But no way can I eat well over a pint of it on my own.

Frank – you are probably the only person (on this site, or perhaps the entire world) who has complained about portions being too large.

You eat over a pint of ice cream in one sitting?

Anyone who does that often must, I would think, almost certainly fall into at least one of the following categories:
        a) obese
        b) extraordinarily physically active
        c) exceptional metabolism
        d) malabsorption

Nope…I have a friend who said of V & T’s pizza that it had too much cheese.

I suppose that takes ‘sweet and sour’ to a new level. Cucumber ice cream, on the other hand, doesn’t sound bad. If zucchini bread (sweet like cake) works…
