Show Featuring UWS in the 50’s Gets Picked Up for Two Seasons; Shades of Lenny Bruce

Amazon released the pilot for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which was set on the Upper West Side in the 1950’s, earlier this year, and it won a nice following. Now Amazon has announced it’s launching the first of two seasons on Nov. 29, and the trailer makes it look pretty entertaining.

Mrs. Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan, ditches the married life for a career in standup comedy, but runs afoul of the cops when her show gets raunchy. Seemed a little like Lenny Bruce’s story to us, with some fun twists (gender not the least!). Check out the trailer below.

I couldn’t be happier! This show was such a breath of fresh air! I can’t wait to see the series!

It was ok. Not great, but good. Other Amazon shows are real knockouts like Man in the High Castle and Mozart in the Jungle. Can’t wait for those two to come back.

I enjoyed the pilot–most of all for the classic apartments in which the main character’s parents live. Were the interiors filmed on location, and if so, what building/apartment was used?
