If learning French is your dream but you’re daunted by the thought of going back to school, check out French and the City at the French Institute Alliance Française. This brand-new class approaches language learning in a whole new way, combining French lessons with citywide excursions and activities that help you practice what you’ve learned. With this unique format, learning French won’t just mean spending hours at a desk – because let’s be honest, that’s sometimes the last thing you want to do after a long day at work.
Taking part in French and the City means that you’ll bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world. You won’t just read about French in a textbook, you will visit a French restaurant and learn how to order food and wine. Your French education won’t end with lists of vocabulary and verb conjugations; you will describe French art during a gallery visit, or keep score at a pétanque match in Central Park. You’ll make real connections during class that will give you the confidence to speak French during a Parisian vacation, a conversation with your French in-laws, or any everyday situation you might encounter!
Each French and the City class includes:
- Lessons where you’ll get a strong foundation in French
- A mix of activities to help you practice your French, from board games to cooking workshops, karaoke, and more
- Two excursions, such as dinner at a French restaurant, pétanque in Central Park, a French-inspired scavenger hunt, or a gallery visit
