Captain Levon Holley was just named as the new commanding officer of the 20th precinct.

By Jessica Brockington

The following crimes were reported recently in the 20th precinct, which covers the section of the Upper West Side from 59th to 86th Street.

On March 11th, 43 year old Eduardo Delgado was arrested for shoplifting in the Duane Reade at 2075 Broadway.  Police report that among the 16 stolen items found in his sweatshirt were different kinds of makeup, household items, and mouthwash. The total value of his theft is reported to be $1,051. Delgado, who told police he is homeless, is being charged with a 4th degree felony.

Upper West Siders continue to be the victims of opportunistic crime, police report. On March 3, at 1:00 pm, a 20 year old woman left her wallet in the locker room at Steps, the dance studio located at 2121 Broadway. She came back from dance class an  hour later and her wallet was gone. Credit cards and drivers license were reported missing, police say.

On March 9th, at 12:00 pm, again at Steps, an 18 year old woman told walked away from her wallet to use the toilet stall and returned to find her Fossil wallet gone. It contained her credit cards, MTA monthly transit card, and CT State drivers license.

An hour and a half later, downstairs at Fairway, 2131 Broadway, a 90 year old woman reached the register to find that her handbag was missing. It had been hanging on her shopping cart while she shopped. No video is available. In her handbag were her NYS drivers license and credit cards.

Police do not believe the three crimes in the vicinity of 2121 and 2131 Broadway are related.

I’ve been shopping two, three times a week for over twenty years at Fairway and I have never seen a rat. I’ll low-ball it: that’s 1800 visits.

These young women need some lessons in street smarts. In NYC you never, ever, ever leave your wallet or purse unattended in any public space. Just plain dumb.

Per the commenters of WSR — I hope they stop and frisk every damn ballerina coming in and out of Steps!

Fairway’s “ratgate” was covered extensively by WSR (and elsewhere) a few years ago. https://www.westsiderag.com/2012/09/27/fairway-rat-mice-problem-video-inside-olives-bins-rats-produce. Since then they banned customers from taking photos in the store. And apparently themselves from taking videos!

Lets welcome Captain Holley. He’s familiar with the UWS as he’s coming over from the 2-6.

Keep us safe Capt.!

Welcome, but keep it on the top of your head to behave. Last night two officers got into a whole heap of trouble for detaining a man who is a De Blasio staffer after they were spotted harassing a homeless man on the street.

Does anyone know if the 90 year old woman needs assistance in canceling and obtaining new cards or other related tasks? That’s a lot for her to do. I would help her personally.
