Gotham Burger, a Kosher burger restaurant out of Teaneck, is planning to open in May at 726 Amsterdam Avenue between 95th and 96th street. That spot is currently home to Meat Me, a French Kosher steakhouse and sushi bar, which replaced Cuban restaurant Cafe Con Leche a little over a year ago.
Meat Me’s phone was disconnected when we tried calling.
Gotham Burger plans to have a sports bar and VIP lounge in the new location. At its Teaneck location, a single Gotham burger (weighing about 6 ounces) costs $8, as does a veggie burger. Of course, prices tend to inflate when you move to New York.
Great Kosher Restaurants International had the scoop:
“We are sad to announce that Meat Me, the French restaurant on the Upper West Side has closed it doors (but something tells me you haven’t heard the last of them).
But in the same token we are excited to announce that Gotham Burger, with a very popular location already in Teaneck, is moving in and after some demolition they plan on opening in May. They are turning the place into a sports bar/burger place with a VIP lounge. The owners promise that they will be offering the same great food that they are known for with a NYC edge (think beer in hand watching a large screen TV). Owner Avi Roth states “with a simple formula of quality fresh food and unparalleled customer service, people keep coming back and that is why we had a large demand to open in Manhattan.” Pre-paid Friday night Shabbos meals will be available once they are up and running. We wish them much success, after all doesn’t Gotham belong in NYC.”
Not the worst thing in the world that could have gone there but is it really need to have TWO Kosher burger places on Amsterdam 2 blocks apart? Seems stupid
Sorry that Cafe Con Leche is out of business. But, I guess that’s life in NYC.
Let’s see what happens. I wish them luck. UWS is a rough neighborhood because of the high rents, etc.
