We’ll be updating our weekly calendar soon, but thought we’d point out two events that are coming up this weekend, so you can bookmark them for your calendar.
On Saturday, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine will host a Health Fair from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“Health experts will be on site to provide free screenings for diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, HIV, and more as well as vendors with information about a wealth of health and wellness issues. We will also have music, give-aways, and free activities for children.”

And on Sunday, from 6:30 until 10 p.m., a group of artists (pictured above) will be putting on an art show and benefit at the bar 78 Below on Columbus between 77th and 78th (the old P&G space). Proceeds from art sales and a portion of drink sales will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Steven Swancoat, a local medical student and artist, organized the show and had another show earlier this year at Nancy’s Wines. I also know one of the other artists, Enrico Miguel Thomas, who is known as the Subway Artist of New York. Says Swancoat:
“Admission is Free. There will be two Galleries, over 75 works of art by 7 local artists will be on display. The Galleries are already hung and anyone is welcome to stop in and check it out. Also featured during the event will be a donation center, Cash bar, raffle tickets for prizes and free art, and a silent auction for items donated by local establishments. 25% – 100% of all art sales, and $1 from every drink purchased will be Donated to New York Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Our Goal is $2,500.”
