November 21, 2011 Weather: Morning Showers, High of 52 Degrees.

We have a new slate of events up for this week, and will be adding to it. The West Side Campaign Against Hunger is accepting frozen turkeys to be delivered to poor New Yorkers starting at 8 a.m. today and tomorrow (pdf).
News:
An Upper West Side ad executive named David Koch whose family owns the Town Shop is often mistaken for David Koch, the billionaire oil and gas mogul, and tea party and Lincoln Center patron. The “poorer” Koch sometimes gets strange packages in the mail from security companies that want to protect his yacht. He even met the billionaire once, after the two kept getting each other’s mail when they both had offices in the same 42nd Street building. (DNAinfo)
Mel Wymore, who just ended his term as Community Board chairman, is planning to run for Gale Brewer’s City Council seat in 2013, as does previous CB7 chair Helen Rosenthal. Wymore would be the first transgendered person to win elected office in New York City. I hear there are other candidates also planning to throw their hats in the ring. (The Capitol)
The Central Park Zoo has created a faux reality show called “The Real Chicks of Central Park” to promote their penguin babies on the web. Why do cute animals get all the attention? What about the “The Real Hippos of Central Park”? (Central Park Zoo)
This past weekend was a pretty violent one on the Upper West Side, with a triple-shooting and a knife attack.
ok, so I tend to proclaim “love that photo”. But this time I really mean it. I love that photo!!!! The beauty of the park in Fall contrasted with the distant but omnipresent concrete world that surrounds it. More such photos by that photographer please.
