Marchers at a pre-inauguration rally at Columbus Circle. Photo by Scott Matthews.
The Not My President’s Day rally is coming to the Upper West Side on Monday from noon to 4 p.m. Organizers say they have a permit. The Facebook page for the rally says the organizers obtained a permit. They are rallying because “Donald Trump is literally our President, but figuratively, he has attacked every value New Yorkers embody and does not represent our interests.”
See the Facebook page for the full explanation; they’re also looking for volunteers.
Just like a pre-inauguration rally at Columbus Circle, this one is expected to stretch from Columbus Circle up Central Park West. In preparation, the police department is restricting parking on CPW between 59th and 68th Street as well as side streets in the area. Look for the signs and be prepared to move your cars before Sunday (if not earlier).
HaHaHa. Losers. Hey, if they’re illegal immigrants, they’re literally telling the truth. Literally.
What????? What does this even mean? Not worth printing a comment like this. Shame on you. This is an intelligent site ….would hope to keep it that way.
I enjoyed Ramon’s comment. Clever and short. Also, he didn’t use 15 question marks.
I did, too. Good one, Ramon! Let’s hope they’re illegal, ICE can come round them all up on Monday in one fell swoop!
Gods. His press conference was insane. The man is unstable.
Rallies are fine but those of us who are disturbed by what is coming out of the President’s office need to use the systems in place and call their elected officials in Washington to share their views. Equally important is mobilizing already for 2018, helping, where possible, in other states to elect individuals that will challenge the dictates of the Administrative Branch of our government rather than simply knuckling under.
Rallies are not just fine. They are part of the process
Excellent comment and a good message to those who want to get involved.
Right? Because we can’t let the UWS go Republican!!!!!!!
West Side Rag: this is news? If I organize a “He is our President–like it or not–because he won the election” rally, will you also give that free advertising??
Oh, great. I have applied for a police permit from the NYPD. Will let you know when we settle on the date for the “He is our President–like it or not–because he won the election” rally. You will be surprised to learn that many Democrats, who want to focus on rebuilding the party and ensuring that we can defeat President Donald J Trump instead of just being cry babies, will attend. Thank you for your fairness.
Ben… of course he’s our President, like it or not! But that doesn’t mean he’s good at it or even should be.
He is NOT good at it!!!! Here lies the problem.
you’re talking to a brick wall Ben David. WSR bans negative comments (including mine) of these people at this rally/protest.
Thanks, UWS Hebrew. Keep expressing your views!
Always the victim…
Mark, thank you for confirming where you stand exactly. I will no longer engage you, for obvious reasons. UWS_lifer, your statement of me having Sharpton as one of my heroes is beyond laughable, as I can’t think of one living American I have more distaste for than him. Save your lectures for the weak-minded and easily intimidated.
was that directed at me Mark? If so, you are parroting, knowingly or not, a common jibe directed at Jews by white supremacists “always the victim”. What say you, Mark?
Always the victim.
It’s even more apparent from what you just wrote.
Whoa easy there, UWSHebrew.
You can’t just play the race card over every tiny little thing. You are not special being a Jew on the UWS. Many of us are.
You are going to start sounding like Rev. Al Sharpton if you start making unsubstantiated claims at the drop of a hat (just a regular hat, not a yarmulke). I know he is one of your heros but he isn’t someone to be emulated. At least in my humble opinion.
Don’t feel bad, UWSHebrew! You should read my responses to most of your comments…although you never will because they get deleted too.:)
Trust me, some of them are really funny and insightful…oh well.
We delete comments that aren’t civil. If you’re excited and hopeful about the president, write something excited and hopeful! WSR
Hi WSR: I’ve enjoyed your site; even recommended it. But now it’s changed.
This page of insults towards marchers etc. sounds as unhinged as Donald Trump. Did I see your solicitation to readers …to say something good about Trump or did a reader just pretend to be you? We are fairly sure Trump will be out of office within a year. There’s collusion with Russia, tax evasion, emoluments, and so many other reasons. In any case, if someone is really screening comments; some of the ignorance on this page is breathtaking and disappointing. A commenter (David) has repeated so many Trump lies and you printed them. These are fact-checked …those of us who know the truth are disgusted by the ignorance. Who are these people? I hope I don’t run into them in the neighborhood. They don’t live in my building that’s for sure. Ok WSR I’m taking a break from you guys for a while. These pages of vitriol without knowledge or facts hark back to Europe in the fascist days. What has become of our shining city on the hill?
In your opinion, which means most opposing views since liberals believes that those are wrong.
>>CRICKETS<<
President Trump is the greatest leader to come to the Oval Office in a very long time! His direct hard-hitting approach has obviously stung those “snowflakes” on the UWS who cannot accept the results of the Presidential election! By all means, let them gather themselves together, shout silly slogans, hold up their crudely constructed signs, and stomp their feet! It won’t do a damn thing to change the reality! President Trump…….it has such a wonderful sound!……..is honoring his campaign pledges, meeting with foreign leaders, union leaders, CEOs, Congressional leaders, a whole assortment of people, to put his agenda to work, and nothing that these professional nay-sayers put together is going to throw his plans off! America is very fortunate, indeed, to have a President of such promise, after the disastrous 8 years of the abysmal Obama Presidency!
Yes, David! I agree! They are stomping their feet like 2 year-olds having a temper tantrum.
I didn’t actually vote for Trump, but a month in and “President Trump” is sounding better and better to me, too! Imagine it, a president who is actually doing what he said he’d do. Of course it helps that he’s an executive who understands business and economic growth, unlike his predecessor, the ‘community organizer.’ Under Obama, the US fell from 6th to 11th in the world in economic freedom, our national debt doubled, and GDP has been anemic. He was a disaster!
Trump has a lot on his plate (as he said yesterday, he indeed inherited a ‘mess’), but he’s off to a good start. I’m thrilled to see him already cutting regulations that are hampering economic growth, and working on plans to get rid of the ObamaCare mess and fix the tax code. That he’s willing to take on the dishonest media and call them out on their ‘fake news’ is just icing on the cake.
I don’t agree with Trump on everything — e.g. we don’t need another infrastructure boondoggle, we got that under the community organizer and look what good it did. But overall a month in I’d say things are looking good. MAGA!
I wish WSR had a like button.
Of course! Get thousands of people to come to a local rally and we will cover it! WSR
Hat to tell you but I can see CPW from my window and the last rally they had did not have thousands it look like less than a thousand
I can see Russia from my house
What do these protests achieve? Nothing, but traffic, congestion, and headaches. By all means, please exercise your freedom of assembly/speech, but get over the election!
AC… I think Trump needs to get over the election! He won! So he should act like it! He keeps on talking about electoral counts and bringing it up to the forefront! He should worry about governing instead!
“but get over the election!”
We’ll “get over” it as soon as Fauxty Five does.
[ref: yesterday’s “press conference”]
It’s not the election that’s the issue: it’s the presidency. One month of chaos, lies, incompetence, nepotism, ignorance and zero achievement. Seems like plenty to protest against.
What rallies do is continue to let our elected representatives know what’s important to us. Yes, it’s also important to write and call them and to keep oneself informed, but rallies are significant. Besides supporting our representatives who are fighting so hard in Washington, they help individuals and groups support each other and know we are all in this together, and yes people will continue to fight rather than “get over the election.” The election was not won by any stretch of the imagination by a popular vote of the people, and was at the very least manipulated by Russia very possibly with help from trump’s campaign team. The man currently sitting in our White House is ignorant and delusional and is so unaware of himself that he continues to put himself out there for all the world to see how unfit he is to govern. Those who continue to blindly support him, and many of his pre-inauguration supporters no longer do, are simply refusing to see what is glaringly true. The people of this country will continue to speak out in every way we can until we right this horrific wrong. Thank you WSR for keeping us informed about these important functions.
How is it a “horrific wrong” when half the country feels it is great? I voted for Hillary, but I simply cannot stand and watch silent while this hysteria goes on. These people, together with the media, are seriously tearing this country apart, not to mention actually making the world a very unsafe place. I thought Trump was scary – he is now the last of my worries.
exactly how are you going to “right this horrific wrong”? *trick question*, as any answer you give will be against the laws of this country, no matter what MSNBC commentators say. USA is not a DEMOCRACY it is a REPUBLIC, and by the rules of the election, Trump won. ~The End~
UWSHebrew – The more comments of yours I read, the more convinced I am that you are one the most logical people on the UWS.
These rallies do not do anything positive. The elected officials could care less. All they achieve is pissing off a large amount of people… and drive those people to the voting booths to continue to vote for the person opposite the candidate these protesters would prefer. Why don’t more people realize that?
thank you very much Sir / Ma’am.
impeachment?
And are you really so happy with Trump that it’s okay with you if this Russian thing never gets investigated?
Thanks West Side Rag for publishing announcements and news pertinent and important to the citizen-residents of the Upper West Side as well as all of NYC. Our elected leaders who were at the last rally are sure to attend this one.
I’m sure de Blasio will be inspiring as usual.
Oh, yes, of course, the “usual suspects” will be there, to spout their leftist liberal blather! You know the ones I mean…….Jerry Nader, Scott Stringer, Gail Brewer, et. al. They will be the same old gas bags we have seen time and again at these rallies……..huffing and puffing, but all rather meaningless and ineffective! Lol
Not sure why you’re calling local reps ineffective. Three weeks ago, Jerry Nadler got an interpreter who aided US military troops serving on the ground in Iraq released from something like 20 hours of detention at JFK.
Maybe you didn’t follow the story, but that was a huge deal for a lot of us.
Meanwhile, those of us who have lives will go to work and be productive. These narcissistic sore losers really need to get over themselves. Whether they like it or not, Donald Trump is our president and all their crybaby protests will do nothing to change that. They may only drive more people to the other side. President Trump’s approval rating is at 55%, keep this hysteria up and it’ll go even higher.
DJ – another person of sound mind on the UWS! I’m starting to feel less alone here.
Thank you, It’s My City Too! You are most definitely not alone. As I’ve said in another post, while many of our UWS neighbors pride themselves on being open-minded and tolerant, in practice they are actually not so keen on people who hold different opinions, so we learn to keep our mouths shut rather than be harassed. I am enjoying reading pro-Trump commenters on westsiderag, and would be interested to meet them someday. Does anyone do meetups anymore? I don’t mean a protest – I don’t feel the need to march around in public carrying a silly sign – but just a chance to come out of the Trump closet for a bit and talk with some like-minded people.
Gallup just reported Trump’s approval rating has slipped from 39 to 38 percent. His disapproval rating is 56 percent.
In no known universe is Trump’s approval rating at 55%, but whatever.
And dj… You’re wrong… his approval rating is at 40 % give or take a couple of percentage points! Don’t spread lies please! Thanks.
https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/trump_administration/prez_track_feb17
Read it and weep. 55%, well outside the margin of error.
Or just keep looking at the polls you agree with, confirmation bias is always comforting to minds that can’t handle the truth.
Of course he won but that doesn’t mean people like what he’s doing or not doing! Everyone has a right to protest if they choose. Anyone who doesn’t agree with people who are protesting, just go on with your life and don’t get your knickers in a bind!
55%. Where’d you get that alternative fact? Breitbart News? Here’s another one for you. Kelly Ann Conway just tweeted that you owe me $1M dollars. Please send a check ASAP as I need to pay for the next four years of my health care.
THANK YOU dj!
“President Trump’s approval rating is at 55%”
bzzzzz, next contestant please.
—-the Fake News got yer brain…—-
Poll: Trump’s approval rating at 39 percent
https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/319913-poll-trumps-approval-rating-drops-to-39-percent
I’m sorry you have such a shitty job that you have to work on a national holiday.
DJ – Monday is a holiday for many of us productive people with busy lives. If we choose to spend some time at a march why would that bother you? Yes, Trump won and I am neither a sore loser or crybaby. Why do you assume that? That said I do not like him or his policies. I will continue to let him know that I am concerned about his positions on certain issues.Big debate on that approval rating, my thriving newspaper says it is at 39%.
berkie – Your ‘thriving’ newspaper also said Hillary was going to win in a landslide!
“Hillary was going to win in a landslide!”
***FYI***
+3 Million votes is a landslide.
but…alternative facts.
What DJ says!!!
“What DJ says!!!”
happens to be a lie (see my other reply)
It really indicates a lack of intelligence and, often, a lack of information when people can only name-call and criticize, rather than take the time to clearly state their own personal thoughts and opinions. Just my opinion.
1.) How many of these people ever protested Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s extensive bombing of (overwhelming Muslim and Arab) countries (and civilians)?
Jeremy Scahill, Glenn Greenwald blast U.S. drone war and “assassination complex,” say liberals would never let a Republican get away with Obama’s crimes
Glenn Greenwald: Obama Has Bombed 7 Nations, But Clinton Claims He Has Not Been Militaristic Enough
Glenn Greenwald On Trump Hysteria: Don’t Forget Obama
2.) How many of these people ever protested Al Sharpton’s speaking to standing ovation at the 2004 Democratic National Convention or the repeated groveling to that riot-inciting, White-hating, Jew-hating, tax-evading individual that has been exhibited by both Barack Obama as well as Bill de Blasio?
3.)
That need not be the case for you, though. Simply move to another country and renounce your U.S. citizenship– as many of you had promised to do should DJT be elected — and voila! Donald J. Trump will then no longer be your President. Literally.
“Donald J. Trump will then no longer be your President. Literally.”
orrrrrr…never silence our voice, shout it loudly….let our elected officials know we won’t stand for the illegal/unconstitutional nonsense that he spews, and work towards removing him from office…
but, whatevz
Thanks to a bunch of sore losers we lose parking over a holiday weekend.
Well, all of you who don’t like President Trump are free to leave…I will help you pack!
Looks like you don’t like most of UWS. Using your logix, You are equally welcome to leave UWs and you can do your own packing since you are supposedly a grown-up to be able to vote.
There are calls to let our elected reps know our minds.
Wrong!
The elected officials are just as corrupt as the government the people are marching against.
And remember this: Obama won, twice, fair
and square.
So did Trump, once, so far.
Preparing for 2018 and 2020, with the same mind set, thinking “oh how much smarter are
we than the minions who voted for Trump”, will for sure create the same ending, losing again to the average Joe, the one we forget, forgot and will forget again.
Got to be smart about this, and marching is fine, but not the answer.
My two cents is:
1. WSR should definitely report on neighborhood events of all kinds…. but
2. WSR should not accept comments on political events that devolve into mindless ad hominem remarks.
Hopefully, WSR is not doing “trolling” stories to increase eyeballs and clicks.
This will be a very successful rally for folks who like tying up traffic, pissing off neighbors, and generally looking silly. But at least they’ll feel good that they threw a a party for themselves! I hope they don’t forget to do something REALLY productive like engaging our elected officials through letters and phone calls and such.
Wow. Lot’s of pro-Trumpers here whining about how the Left is whining.
As usual, mirrors must be rare in their homes.
And no one whines as much as Trump. He won. He’s the president. But every news conference and tweet is about how unfair the media is, how mean people are to him, how he won by soon much. Amazing that his supporters think his opponents are the whiners.
That’s because we felt the exact same way under Obama, only we didn’t hold a protracted temper tantrum over it. We sucked it up, dealt with it, and showed our displeasure with our votes.
Lisa – honestly, can we be best friends?
What a joke, but is now to be expected from the liberal (looney ???) left. Where do they get the time…must be all the “public servants” and academics. I never viewed Obama as my president since all I ever was to him was a $$$ (funding source), but I was too busy working for this nonsense.
I will be putting my I Love Trump sign in my window !
What s bunch of crybabies
lotta sore winners out trolling today
Look, Ike had 7% unemployment and an economy growing at +2%. Kennedy stressed the economy, as did Reagan and Bill Clinton. If you march, march for JOBS. That’s the end game. Please ditch the refrigerator magnet slogans in favor of one win-lose platform. Can we all agree one at least that? J O B S.
They have a right to protest ..
What is unbelievable is the involvement of former president Obama … His OFA organization is behind organizing all these rally’s across the country ..
It’s right on his website … It’s just unbelievable …
84 million followers on Twitter and OFA have 13 million addresses .. It should be illegal for an ex president to conduct himself in this manor …
Protest all you want. It’s like a big circle jerk echo chamber where everyone there gets a free injection of “we are better people than them” good to last for a whole month.
But remember, half the country disagrees with you. Don’t forget that.
I say the same to that teacher who was caught on tape telling her students what a tragedy the election was: HALF YOUR STUDENTS DISAGREE WITH YOU. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T SEE THINGS THE WAY YOU DO.
When did liberals become so intolerant?
I will be there!!! Trump’s values belong in the garbage. He needs to know that people are not just going to go along with his agenda just because he’s used to getting his way with everything else.
To those who call us sore losers and say they didn’t fo all this protesting when Obama won, I say: you’re right, you didn’t do this protesting when Obama won, nor did we do this level of protesting for the last republican elected, nor would we have done it for Rubio or Kasich or Jeb Bush or the others had they won. The protests are not because Republicans won, they are specific to Donald Trump and what he’s doing. And, when he stops complaining and/or boasting about how big his crowds were, how much the press hates him, how great his campaign was (more than a month after it was over!!), how he probably won the popular vote if not for “voter fraud,” how much better a host of the Apprentice he was…when he stops being such a horrifyingly bad sport, maybe we will start to put the election behind us too.
K, why didn’t liberals care about Bill Clinton’s sexual misconduct? There is more than one woman on record that he sexually assaulted them. And he settled a lawsuit while president for a million dollars if i’m not mistaken. WHERE WE ALL OF YOU? #selectiveOUTRAGE
I haven’t seen UWS protests like this since school rezonings would have sent the kids of rich, erudite white residents to a school with too many non-white faces! The struggle is real, Progressives!
I find it unfortunate that westsiderag.com is now not about the neighborhood. It is now a fully vested activist/propaganda entity that holds no interest to anyone who is not marching with the extreme left. I, for one, despise all politicians, especially the local functionaries, and find it outrageous and disturbing that they believe it’s up tho them what federal laws to abide. As for West Side Rag, it was fun while it lasted.
