LARGE ‘NOT MY PRESIDENT’S DAY’ RALLY PLANNED ON CENTRAL PARK WEST MONDAY

February 17, 2017 | 11:47 AM - Updated on February 18, 2017 | 9:19 AM
in NEWS

The Not My President’s Day rally is coming to the Upper West Side on Monday from noon to 4 p.m. Organizers say they have a permit. The Facebook page for the rally says the organizers obtained a permit. They are rallying because “Donald Trump is literally our President, but figuratively, he has attacked every value New Yorkers embody and does not represent our interests.”

See the Facebook page for the full explanation; they’re also looking for volunteers.

Just like a pre-inauguration rally at Columbus Circle, this one is expected to stretch from Columbus Circle up Central Park West. In preparation, the police department is restricting parking on CPW between 59th and 68th Street as well as side streets in the area. Look for the signs and be prepared to move your cars before Sunday (if not earlier).

Rallies are fine but those of us who are disturbed by what is coming out of the President’s office need to use the systems in place and call their elected officials in Washington to share their views. Equally important is mobilizing already for 2018, helping, where possible, in other states to elect individuals that will challenge the dictates of the Administrative Branch of our government rather than simply knuckling under.

Oh, great. I have applied for a police permit from the NYPD. Will let you know when we settle on the date for the “He is our President–like it or not–because he won the election” rally. You will be surprised to learn that many Democrats, who want to focus on rebuilding the party and ensuring that we can defeat President Donald J Trump instead of just being cry babies, will attend. Thank you for your fairness.

You can’t just play the race card over every tiny little thing. You are not special being a Jew on the UWS. Many of us are.

You are going to start sounding like Rev. Al Sharpton if you start making unsubstantiated claims at the drop of a hat (just a regular hat, not a yarmulke). I know he is one of your heros but he isn’t someone to be emulated. At least in my humble opinion.

Hi WSR: I’ve enjoyed your site; even recommended it. But now it’s changed.
This page of insults towards marchers etc. sounds as unhinged as Donald Trump. Did I see your solicitation to readers …to say something good about Trump or did a reader just pretend to be you? We are fairly sure Trump will be out of office within a year. There’s collusion with Russia, tax evasion, emoluments, and so many other reasons. In any case, if someone is really screening comments; some of the ignorance on this page is breathtaking and disappointing. A commenter (David) has repeated so many Trump lies and you printed them. These are fact-checked …those of us who know the truth are disgusted by the ignorance. Who are these people? I hope I don’t run into them in the neighborhood. They don’t live in my building that’s for sure. Ok WSR I’m taking a break from you guys for a while. These pages of vitriol without knowledge or facts hark back to Europe in the fascist days. What has become of our shining city on the hill?

President Trump is the greatest leader to come to the Oval Office in a very long time! His direct hard-hitting approach has obviously stung those “snowflakes” on the UWS who cannot accept the results of the Presidential election! By all means, let them gather themselves together, shout silly slogans, hold up their crudely constructed signs, and stomp their feet! It won’t do a damn thing to change the reality! President Trump…….it has such a wonderful sound!……..is honoring his campaign pledges, meeting with foreign leaders, union leaders, CEOs, Congressional leaders, a whole assortment of people, to put his agenda to work, and nothing that these professional nay-sayers put together is going to throw his plans off! America is very fortunate, indeed, to have a President of such promise, after the disastrous 8 years of the abysmal Obama Presidency!

Yes, David! I agree! They are stomping their feet like 2 year-olds having a temper tantrum.

I didn’t actually vote for Trump, but a month in and “President Trump” is sounding better and better to me, too! Imagine it, a president who is actually doing what he said he’d do. Of course it helps that he’s an executive who understands business and economic growth, unlike his predecessor, the ‘community organizer.’ Under Obama, the US fell from 6th to 11th in the world in economic freedom, our national debt doubled, and GDP has been anemic. He was a disaster!

Trump has a lot on his plate (as he said yesterday, he indeed inherited a ‘mess’), but he’s off to a good start. I’m thrilled to see him already cutting regulations that are hampering economic growth, and working on plans to get rid of the ObamaCare mess and fix the tax code. That he’s willing to take on the dishonest media and call them out on their ‘fake news’ is just icing on the cake.

I don’t agree with Trump on everything — e.g. we don’t need another infrastructure boondoggle, we got that under the community organizer and look what good it did. But overall a month in I’d say things are looking good. MAGA!

What rallies do is continue to let our elected representatives know what’s important to us. Yes, it’s also important to write and call them and to keep oneself informed, but rallies are significant. Besides supporting our representatives who are fighting so hard in Washington, they help individuals and groups support each other and know we are all in this together, and yes people will continue to fight rather than “get over the election.” The election was not won by any stretch of the imagination by a popular vote of the people, and was at the very least manipulated by Russia very possibly with help from trump’s campaign team. The man currently sitting in our White House is ignorant and delusional and is so unaware of himself that he continues to put himself out there for all the world to see how unfit he is to govern. Those who continue to blindly support him, and many of his pre-inauguration supporters no longer do, are simply refusing to see what is glaringly true. The people of this country will continue to speak out in every way we can until we right this horrific wrong. Thank you WSR for keeping us informed about these important functions.

How is it a “horrific wrong” when half the country feels it is great? I voted for Hillary, but I simply cannot stand and watch silent while this hysteria goes on. These people, together with the media, are seriously tearing this country apart, not to mention actually making the world a very unsafe place. I thought Trump was scary – he is now the last of my worries.

UWSHebrew – The more comments of yours I read, the more convinced I am that you are one the most logical people on the UWS.

These rallies do not do anything positive. The elected officials could care less. All they achieve is pissing off a large amount of people… and drive those people to the voting booths to continue to vote for the person opposite the candidate these protesters would prefer. Why don’t more people realize that?

Not sure why you’re calling local reps ineffective. Three weeks ago, Jerry Nadler got an interpreter who aided US military troops serving on the ground in Iraq released from something like 20 hours of detention at JFK.

Thank you, It’s My City Too! You are most definitely not alone. As I’ve said in another post, while many of our UWS neighbors pride themselves on being open-minded and tolerant, in practice they are actually not so keen on people who hold different opinions, so we learn to keep our mouths shut rather than be harassed. I am enjoying reading pro-Trump commenters on westsiderag, and would be interested to meet them someday. Does anyone do meetups anymore? I don’t mean a protest – I don’t feel the need to march around in public carrying a silly sign – but just a chance to come out of the Trump closet for a bit and talk with some like-minded people.

1.) How many of these people ever protested Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s extensive bombing of (overwhelming Muslim and Arab) countries (and civilians)?

How many of these people ever protested Al Sharpton’s speaking to standing ovation at the 2004 Democratic National Convention or the repeated groveling to that riot-inciting, White-hating, Jew-hating, tax-evading individual that has been exhibited by both Barack Obama as well as Bill de Blasio?

3.)

There are calls to let our elected reps know our minds.
Wrong!
The elected officials are just as corrupt as the government the people are marching against.

And remember this: Obama won, twice, fair
and square.
So did Trump, once, so far.
Preparing for 2018 and 2020, with the same mind set, thinking “oh how much smarter are
we than the minions who voted for Trump”, will for sure create the same ending, losing again to the average Joe, the one we forget, forgot and will forget again.

Got to be smart about this, and marching is fine, but not the answer.

Protest all you want. It’s like a big circle jerk echo chamber where everyone there gets a free injection of “we are better people than them” good to last for a whole month.

But remember, half the country disagrees with you. Don’t forget that.

I say the same to that teacher who was caught on tape telling her students what a tragedy the election was: HALF YOUR STUDENTS DISAGREE WITH YOU. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T SEE THINGS THE WAY YOU DO.

To those who call us sore losers and say they didn’t fo all this protesting when Obama won, I say: you’re right, you didn’t do this protesting when Obama won, nor did we do this level of protesting for the last republican elected, nor would we have done it for Rubio or Kasich or Jeb Bush or the others had they won. The protests are not because Republicans won, they are specific to Donald Trump and what he’s doing. And, when he stops complaining and/or boasting about how big his crowds were, how much the press hates him, how great his campaign was (more than a month after it was over!!), how he probably won the popular vote if not for “voter fraud,” how much better a host of the Apprentice he was…when he stops being such a horrifyingly bad sport, maybe we will start to put the election behind us too.

I find it unfortunate that westsiderag.com is now not about the neighborhood. It is now a fully vested activist/propaganda entity that holds no interest to anyone who is not marching with the extreme left. I, for one, despise all politicians, especially the local functionaries, and find it outrageous and disturbing that they believe it’s up tho them what federal laws to abide. As for West Side Rag, it was fun while it lasted.
