Two people are wanted by police in connection with a purse-snatching at Fairway last week, the Daily News reported. Their victim was 92 years old.
The thieves snatched the pocketbook, containing the elderly victim’s hearing aid, glasses, credit cards and $450 in cash, from her shopping cart in the supermarket on Broadway near W. 74th St. about 1:45 p.m. April 22, cops said.
Police released the photos above and below today.
One suspect is described as a white woman in her 20s wearing a low-cut black shirt under a light-colored shirt and necklace.
The other suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s wearing a T-shirt, glasses and black do-rag.
If you have information, call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, use the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
Would be even more helpful if the police would release these photos closer to the date of the crime, when people might have seen the perp in those clothes and be more likely to remember it.
A good argument for having public cameras everywhere. I hope that they catch and punish these 2 individuals.
How low can you get robbing a 92 year old woman? Vile individuals. I hope karma catches up to them with a vengeance.
POLICE TIP: this woman looks familiar; they guy not so much. The police should show these photos to the cashiers at Melissa’s Gourmet on Broadway and 61/62. I saw a woman who looked like her and a man outside there, but the man was African-American and stockier.
Howard Freeman why don’t you call the police since you have the information about seeing the woman.
Howard, you have a very good tip. Please make sure you tell the police directly. We need to catch these people.
Karen’s point is well taken. I think that the disparity between low-high income is the real problem. In this amazing, rich, rich city, the have-nots are too, too many : no access to jobs, impossibly low salaries for many, with no access to the wealth observed all around. I deplore incidents taking advantage of the elderly, but I also see how/why it is happening.
JSF, what kind of an excuse is that? Just because someone is lacking wealth doesn’t mean they lack the moral judgement to know right from wrong.
I can’t believe that you would say something like this. It’s this type of mind set where you are excusing this type of behavior because someone doesn’t have a job or money. You said that you deplore situations like this that take advantage of the elderly. So are you saying it is okay to take what you want from someone of means who is in their 30’s?
Re: ” In this amazing, rich, rich city, the have-nots are too, too many….”
Yes! Let’s ship them all to New Jersey! Ummm…wait-a-sec! Then they’d have to deal with Governor Gordo. Bad idea.
Guess we should do something about Income-Inequality. Why not start by giving YOUR paycheck to “the have-nots”?
Or we COULD just have a better police presence. Ooops, forgot! Police are now the bad guys ever since Ferguson, Staten Island, Baltimore, etc. and we wouldn’t want to encourage “Mass Incarceration” now, would we??????
🙁
When police violate the civil rights of unarmed citizens then yes, they are the bad guys. When the blue wall of silence and threatened pensions force officers to look the other way, then the do nothing officers are also the bad guys.
No, no mass incarceration. But slamming every white woman wearing a yellow vest up against a wall to pat them them down might be a good start. Just so they get the message. That’ll teach them! Right?
How do you know these people were poor? To be sure, there’s a huge disparity between rich and poor in NYC, but generalizations like yours don’t explain or allow one to understand any particular crime. We know nothing about these people other than how they look.
I know many poor people that do not resort to criminal behavior. It is my experience that people engaged in criminal activity are likely addicts. I do not think “taxing the rich” would have any affect on crime.
I’m wondering where are all the calls to bring back racial profiling stop & frisk. it seems that when the suspect pictured is white we don’t hear those. Maybe every single white women in her 20s on Bway should be s&fed?
Hi Bruce, and I hope you are well.
Stop & frisk would have done zilch in
this case.
The weapon the woman used was her hands.
No gun, no knife, no club or rope.
And, it’s time for you to Get off your
kick re S & F.
You are drowning in this subject, and
this tome around, you are the one that brought it up.
As far as the two criminals:
Catch them, throw the book at them, and
lock them up for a couple of years.
Prison will do them good.
Freedom will make them repeat criminals.
she does look familiar. can’t place her, but know I have seen her around the 60s/70s. going to keep my eyes open, but surprised she hasn’t been caught bc I know I have seen her around.
What these people did was reprehensible, but I don’t see anyone saying that the shopper shouldn’t have left her purse in her shopping cart. Everyone in NYC knows that. You would think a 92 year old would have learned that by now. That being said, I hope these criminals are caught.
