Barney’s: The Barney’s Co-op on 76th street and Broadway is about to morph into a more upscale women-only shop, and drop the co-op from its name. More designer clothes, and a large renovation are in store, notes Women’s Wear Daily and Racked.
“[T]he store will be rebranded as Barneys New York, where it will introduce women’s designer clothing, handbags, and jewelry. Men’s will be completely eliminated from the store, and the entire interior will be ‘renovated along the lines of the clean aesthetic of the renovated Barneys Madison Avenue flagship.'”
Shade Store: Empty storefronts on Columbus Avenue have not stayed vacant for long in the past few years. The old Pippin Jewelry store, which lasted about six months on 75th and Columbus, is no exception. It will soon be replaced by the Shade Store, which sells window blinds, shades and window coverings. We hear they’re planning to open in two to three months.
Metro Bicycles: The Metro Bicycle Store at 231 West 96th street will relocate this summer to the corner of 93rd and Columbus, the site of the Columbus Distributors Hardware store. Thanks to Ira for the tip and photo.
Barney’s, Theory, Rag & Bone, Club Monaco, Reiss…all coed stores that have removed menswear from their UWS stores.
