Pippin Vintage Jewelry lasted about six months on Columbus Avenue and 75th Street before closing its doors. The store replaced another jewelry store, Michael Golan, around the start of July. Thanks to Terry for the tip and photo.
Älskling, the Swedish women’s clothing shop on Columbus near 71st Street has vacated the premises for about three months because she “had to take a break,” the owner told us today. The shop is popular with Lincoln Center musicians, New York magazine notes: “Bias-cut crushed-velvet frocks and décolletage-enhancing tops with ruffled three-quarter sleeves seem made for orchestra pits or the proscenium stages at nearby Lincoln Center.” In its place is G. Black, which sells clothing, shoes and accessories. Älskling will be back in May.
Not Pippin! I was dying to go there!! Guess I’ll have to put on my traveling shoes … Shame.
It’s really getting to be too much. It’s hard to develop an affinity for a local place when you know it will be gone shortly because some greedy landlord wants to rent to a bank or a Duane Reade.
Enough already. The Upper West Side has lost so much of its unique character.
