The Alvin Ailey dance company returns next month with exciting new performances, including a new work from acclaimed hip-hop choreographer Rennie (Lorenzo) Harris. “Exodus” celebrates spirituality and personal fulfillment, dramatizing the individual’s need to break free from ignorance and conformity to become a truly enlightened person.
The choreographer has built a strong body of work. “Mr. Harris’ previous contributions to the Ailey repertory include Home (2011) and Love Stories (2004), the latter of which was a collaboration with Judith Jamison and Robert Battle. Known to mix hip- hop with Shakespeare, poetry, and gospel music, Harris has been credited with introducing the African-American dance form to a worldwide audience and revolutionizing contemporary concert dance.”
