What are you thankful for on the Upper West Side? Tell us things about the neighborhood that make you glad you live or work here.

The Upper West Side is flanked by two magnificent parks and a wide and beautiful river. It comprises world-class cultural institutions, abundant educational institutions, wonderful hospitals and healthcare facilities, public transportation, restaurants, shops, and numerous charitable organizations aiding the less fortunate among us.

Granted these are frighteningly turbulent times – on the local, national, global, and planetary levels – and there always seems to be a new crisis to supplant or enhance the last. Now, it’s another war that is further polarizing the populace. But as one wise UWS psychotherapist said, we live on many levels, and one is the everyday. So, let’s take a breather from the turmoil and focus on what we have to be thankful for.

Here’s what you have to do:

List nine (9) things about the Upper West Side that you are thankful for. Please include on your list at least one of each of the following: a local small business; a cultural venue or event; a public space or park; a restaurant; a market; a government agency or department; a charitable organization; what you like most about the West Side Rag; and any other place, thing or person you appreciate about the neighborhood. (There’s a link below to help you.)

We will tabulate the results and the winner(s) will be the person or persons whose answers correspond to the highest-ranked answers submitted by all participants. The winners will receive their choice of three (3) highly coveted items from the West Side Rag Shop.

Please submit your answers by midnight, Friday, November 17th, Click Here to enter. Only one submission per person. There is no cost to enter.

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for reading the Rag.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
