In October, the first month of the Israel-Hamas war, New York City recorded a 124% increase in hate crimes compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the latest NYPD crime statistics report. The NYPD crime statistics for the month of October 2023  showed that crimes targeting Jews rose from 22 in October last year to 69 last month, while Muslims were targets of eight reported hate crimes this October, compared with none a year earlier.

The 69 crimes targeting Jews were a substantial majority of the 101 hate crimes reported in the city last month. Despite October’s rise in antisemitic attacks, the NYPD report showed total hate crimes decreased by 9% for the year ending October 30,2023.

Citywide, the NYPD reported a decrease in four of the seven major crime categories so far this year, when compared to the same period in 2022. Murder incidents declined by 26.7% while reports of rape were down 19.3%. Declines were also recorded in reports of burglary and grand larceny,  while robbery, felony assaults, and grand larceny auto incidents all showed increases. This chart shows data for 2023 through November 5,  taken from the NYPD site (the numbers will vary slightly from those above since the chart includes 5 days of November).

Citywide YTD 11/5/23 YTD 11/5/22 % Change

GLA               13,551 11,494 17.9%
Hate Crimes                  424      555 -23.6%

An analysis of data for the same period for the Upper West Side precincts 20, 24, and Central Park showed a jump in murders – six on the Upper West Side in 2023, compared with two in the same period last year. Four of those murdered this year – two adults and two children – were found in an apartment on West 86th Street in August, as reported by WSR.

The year-to-date statistics for UWS precincts show that Incidents of rape, robbery, burglary, and grand larceny have all declined from a year earlier, while increases were reported in grand larceny auto and felony assaults. Hate crimes data for the neighborhood showed that reports for the 28-day period ending November 5 increased to three from just one reported in the same period of the prior year. All three reported incidents were in the 24th precinct, but the NYPD did not identify the targets.

Good info. But what is GLA, if not grand larceny?

And it’s going to go up even higher unless we get our act together and realize that basically we are all the same.
And, the government should take the gloves off and treat hate crime with the punishment it deserves.

Jews are the targets of all the hate crimes yet all the woke schools that are preaching DEI are reducing their Jewish populations to make room for the truly oppressed minorities.

My child’s school is still harping on Islamophobia. Not a word about antisemitism.

Being Anti -Israel is not being antisemitic. Yet it seems there is a trend to correlate the two. News flash there are anti Israelis who are anti Saudi as well . So I’m guessing being anti Saudi is anti Arab or Muslim . Give me a break

Sure, the actual physical attacks on Jewish people here here are because someone’s “just” anti-Israel, not antisemitic. The 18-yrs-old ready to beat up everyone who calls them out are “just” exercising a pollical stance.

Do you even hear yourself?
