Community Forum on Sept. 17 Will Explain New Rent Laws

The state rewrote rent laws this year, and they have a large impact on Upper West Siders.

Council Member Helen Rosenthal’s office says she’s been getting lots of questions on the laws, and is hoping to explain it to a larger group of people.

Next Tuesday, several organizations and politicians — including Rosenthal and Assembly Member Daniel O’Donnell — will explain the laws in more detail at a forum. It’s from 6-8 p.m. at Goddard Riverside, 593 Columbus Avenue at 89th Street.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. Noted:
1) The brief write up reveals that even the WSR doesn’t have information on how the new law will impact UWSers.
2) The lack of comments suggest that: a) people don’t know about the changes; b) people don’t care about the changes; or 3) CM Helen Rosenthal could focus on more important UWSer concerns.
