Mighty Bowl, which serves food bowls that come “from the streets of Asia to NYC,” is getting set to open where Subway sandwich shop was on Amsterdam between 75th and 76th. The menu is here, with bowls named mostly after states and cities. Thanks to Amy for the photo.
Black Press Coffee is planning to open in the former home of Birdbath Bakery on Columbus Avenue between 72nd and 73rd Streets, according to signs posted on the windows. Black Press has another location on Lexington Avenue, and touts its careful coffee bean sourcing. Thanks to Gary for the photo.
Sweetgreen plans to open another UWS location on the corner of 68th Street and Amsterdam, in a space that’s been under construction for awhile. The health-food chain serves salad and grain bowls and also has locations at 2460 Broadway (91st Street) and at 311 Amsterdam (75th). Thanks to Gary for the photo and Kimberly for the tip.
Celso de Lemos is opening at 74th and Columbus, the former home of American Craftsman. It’s a Portuguese linen store, and this will be its New York flagship, according to a sign on the window. Here’s the website for more info. Thanks to Carol for the photo.
This is opening on Columbus Avenue at 74th, not Amsterdam as noted in the piece. the C
olumbus Avenue BID welcomes them!
Seriously? ANOTHER coffee shop??? And a 3rd neighborhood Sweetgreen, only 7 blocks from another??? Blargh!
+1
The sweetgreen on 75th is a total disappointment. Long lines, not enough employees and those that are there do not seem to be managed and the salads are just not as good at other locations. I’m guessing these people are paid the absolute minimum because the quality of worker is not great.
Yes, Sweetgreen’s customer service is fraudulent. They charge for premiums when none were ordered, and don’t offer a receipt. Not only can’t you pay in cash, the representatives don’t know prices and much better to go to either Just Salad or ChopT, both a few streets away
at best , I find the staff at most sweetgreen stores to be at mildly interested in customer service . It’s always an uncomfortable interaction . Like you;re bothering them for ordering food
Maybe it’s not for you. A long line means that it is popular, not inefficient.
I wonder who is going to eat at the Sweetgreens on Amsterdam. That block is a dead zone. The high school students there can’t afford it and don’t eat outside the schools.
I would think they’re targeting the Flywheel crowd as they leave their spin classes across the street
JUDGING FROM THE SUCCESS OF THE WINE BAR PRACTICALLY NEXT DOOR AND THE COFFEE SHOP IN THE BUILDING ACROSS THE STREET, BOTH OF WHICH DO LAND OFFICE BUSINESS, THIS LOCATION IS GROWING IN DEMAND NOT A WASTELAND AT ALL.
I thought the same thing about the Starbucks on 66th & Amsterdam and yet I always see lots of people in there. I guess the idea is “if you build it they will come.”
Anyone know what’s coming to corner that used to be Barley & Grain? Or Tangled Vine on the opposite corner of that same block? Those were two great places, hope we can have something good there again.
Celso de Lemos sells $500 sheets. You know you have too much money when you’re considering $500 sheets.
happy for the Sweetgreen coming to 68th! now i dont have to walk all the way to 75th anymore 🙂
The Mighty Bowl menu looks interesting with most BOYB items listed at around $10. Does anyone know how big the portions are?
I used to go to the one down on 3rd ave all the time before my office moved. Portion size is pretty large, definitely a good lunch. I can’t wait for the place to open.
Thanks for the reply Brian, I’m looking forward to trying it! 🙂
Lowe’s on 68th closed
Are we sure that’s not just an advertisement for Sweetgreen? They have a billboard in Times Square, wouldn’t surprise me if they papered some construction.
The sign has been covered up with white vinyl. Perhaps it was just an advertisement for the brand?
