The rendering on the left was presented in July. The new rendering at right was presented last week.
Architects for a new 8-story condo-retail building at 466-468 Columbus Avenue between 82nd Street and 83rd Street won approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission at a meeting last week. They presented a slightly smaller plan than they did in July after criticism from the board, according to NY YIMBY.
“The building’s overall height has been reduced by two feet, three inches from 105 feet, seven inches to 103 feet, four inches. However, the height to the overhang at the penthouse terrace has actually been reduced by a full five feet. This has been achieved by reducing the upper floor heights.”
The current three-story commercial building on the site is in an historic district; it’s housed supermarkets and restaurants in the past, but is empty now.
Love it! Old-world aesthetics, light allowance at only 8 stories, and an improvement over the existing structure. Win-win-win for the neighborhood!
This little stretch of Columbus is kinda dingy. This will spruce up the area.
I like it too but I am going to withhold judgement until I hear what Dannyboy thinks.
These days I don’t like to make a move without hearing his 2 cents. Such an insightful and thoughtful contributor here…and that sharp wit!!
stevieboy,
Be free with what you comment, I only request that you consider others.
Thank you for your consideration.
Tear it down! Tear it all down!
The rich need new condos! Everybody else GO AWAY!
YAAY!!
Considering the above comments, me-thinks this site should immediately begin soliciting adverts from various mental health providers.
🙂
These folks ARE mental health providers!
I am a trained Counselor with advanced degrees from CCNY. I can’t speak for stevieboy’s status or offer him any help.
Although I do have some thoughts based on his mimicking of my name.
Oh, DannyBoy…the pipes, the pipes and so on and so forth…
It’s funny you should ask because I have been in and out of mental institutions and asylums my entire life. I was actually conceived in the psych ward at Arkam, the product of a brilliant, young psychiatrist and a criminally insane prostitute.
After I was adopted by a very well-to-do UWS family I was forced to attend all of your fancy Prep Schools and Ivy League Universities…that was where the real horrors took place.
I thought I could handle anything at that point, numb to the pain of a lifetime of abuse and regret. And then….just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, when I thought the universe had taken everything from me….even thinking about it now, years later sends a shiver down my spine….
THEY CLOSED BIG NICK’S!!!!!! something inside me snapped and I haven’t been the same since. Now I just roam message boards and threads reeking havoc like the demented nihilistic maniac that I am…..MUAHHHHHHhhh MuahHHHHh:)
So, what’s your diagnosis, Counselor?? and more importantly, do you have a prescription pad?
I hope the idiots on the Landmarks Preservation Commission feel good and puff out their chests. They fulfilled their role as the guardians of decay and the champions of “NO!!!”. What did they really accomplish? Why make the developer go through all this for a few feet – did it really make a difference? The Landmarks Pres. Commission should be disbanded. Owners should be able to do what they want with their property…
Ever hear about a little thing called the “Landmarks Law”-probably not. .
This is the current site of Flywheel, correct? The 3 story building is pretty new. @WestsideRag any idea if they will be tearing it down and starting from scratch, or adding the additional floors on top of the current structure?
It will be demolished. WSR
