For amateur urban history buffs and enthusiastic walkers, this weekend offers a treasure trove of free walks. Jane’s Walks is a series of walking tours organized by the Municipal Arts Society in honor of urban pioneer Jane Jacobs.
Two walks start on the Upper West Side this weekend.
On Saturday at 1, tour guides will meet at 84th and Central Park West and 84th street to lead a tour called Public Space and Public Belonging. “From Central Park West to Riverside Park, the group will consider habitat, migration, and the relationship between social and natural ecology, addressing how the nature of public spaces affect people’s sense of belonging.
On both Saturday and Sunday at 9:30, there will be a “wilderness running tour” of Central Park. It meets at the 72nd street transverse and West Drive. “If you’re a runner who likes uneven trails and steep hills and would like to experience an exhilarating journey through these select areas of Central Park, then meet us for this special Jane’s Walk run..”
