There is little snow accumulation and our power hungry governor and mayor shut off traffic and business in the city. This is like living in a police state of North Korea.
“police state in N. Korea?” – hardly.
Face it..some entitled people just can’t stay the fuck home for 24 hours and can’t fathom surviving without a fucking loaf of bread.
Stay the fuck home. Let the city people do their jobs!!! It’s a big city with a lot of ground to cover.
If you don’t have netflix..it’s your own damn fault!
Thirty inches of snow? What is wrong with you? This was a big storm and I think the city and the state handled things just perfectly.
I’m not sure drama queens are allowed to live in North Korea.
While it is true that for people who live on the UWS it is a relatively easy walk around the neighborhood even with snow, that is not the case everywhere.
It is important to remember that many if not most of the people working at UWS stores/restaurants/businesses, whether Fairway, the movie theaters, building staff, etc, are mostly low wage workers who
are commuting far because they cannot afford to live here on the UWS close to their jobs. They deserve to be at home and safe just as we are on the UWS.
A larger issue is that non-essential vehicles on the roads get into accidents and impede plowing and divert emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. They have a big ripple impact.
IMO it is important for government to focus on safety first. We are lucky we are not drinking lead-laced water in Flint Michigan.
Lest silence be misconstrued as acquiescence, I’ll just say the obvious: New York is not rmotely like North Korea, and that is not remotely “a little snow.”
Minor snow storm in NYC, and we see empty streets, closed businesses, closed subways, hundreds of millions of losses. All for a power trip for the governor and mayor. Should have kept the subways, busses and taxi running, and blocked private cars only. Hysterical media and hysterical politicians.
And of course the welfare recepients and Social Security recepients will still get their checks. They dont have to work for a living.
You do realize that Social Security recipients paid in to the social security system for years in order to receive their SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS, don’t you?
Having said that what on earth does their receipt of benefits have to do with the snow storm and a travel ban?
Third biggest snowstorm in city history so far…but sure, “minor.”
Looks like it ended up being second biggest on record!
I’m certain, however, that our tough guys on the board were out there helping people in need.
How is it possible to turn a snowstorm and the (obviously correct) response into an anti-poor people rant?
Enjoy the lovely snow day. It was beautiful – and very difficult to get around.
Shutting down roadways, MTA bus service, etc was the proper decision. There is a lot of snow. No way to plow it all. Vehicles get stuck and have accidents.
Businesses needed to close too – the appropriate and prudent action.
The underground subways are still running. Only ones that go above ground are impacted because, you know, snow is in the way.
smart bodega owner who chose to stay open probably made enough today to send a kid to college for 4 years
Recently, even good or happy articles create a bitch fest on this site. Don’t understand if these people are negative all the time or the anonymity of the internet causes people to say vile things they wouldn’t dare say face to face. Probably a bit of both. There was an oft used saying…”if you don’t have anything nice to say, then say nothing.”
I was knocked sideways when I went to the 52nd Street post office at 10:15 on Saturday and it was closed…tight shut! How does that go?…Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night…
It’s not just Andrew Cuomo who is in another world.

Fantastic response.
