My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!

I just stopped by WSR to see what was new in the neighborhood and came across the poem at the top of the page by Edna St.Vincent Millay which took my breath away. This time of year we think of family past and present. And I’ve been thinking about my kids and my parents all week. My folks died just months apart 10 years ago and my father used to type up little gems like this on little slips of paper and leave them in various places around the house. On the fridge, stuck to her makeup mirror, on the coffee maker etc. This one was the last of the poems I found stuck in a tiny jar inside my mother’s jewelry box. I have it now in my own. I love very much. Thank you.
What a sweet memory. Glad this was meaningful. WSR
Thank you poet, photographers, jezbel, and West Sider.

🙂
Note the Lady Pavilion tucked in the trees along the shore of the lake…
Love getting your publication every day. Even for a non-New Yorker there’s something of interest or that causes a smile. Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you enjoy it! WSR
Lovely feature.
Breathtaking pictures!! Keep them coming!
Dear Folks:
These are photos that take your breathe away.
They make you realize why you put up with all the problems endemic to NYC such as the subway, the astronomical rents, dirt, grime, etc.
Where else but NYC can you get this. WOW!!!
thank you Scott MAtthews!! what a great eye for urban landscapes, and what an accomplished use of your instruments (the camera and light). i always enjoy your photos.
