A fire on the roof of a brownstone on West 88th street Thursday night caused lots of smoke and drew 60 firefighters but was out in about an hour, with no injuries reported. The fire at 21 West 88th street began at 7:26 and was out by 8:23, an FDNY spokesman said. It’s not clear what sparked it.
“The smell of smoke was everywhere on the block,” wrote Ed Hersh, who sent in the photos above and below.
This after the St. Agnes Library on Amsterdam Avenue between 81st and 82nd streets!
That’s a lot of fires.
When it comes to old buildings, neglected, to expensive to repair…fires crop up. the UWS is becoming dilapidated becuase the building are not being maintained to code.
i’m sure it had nothing to do with the roofing job directly next door to the building that caught fire…
oh, oh
ILLEGAL roofing job next door on top of The Dwight School, that is. What kind of (for-profit) school puts down an illegal roof and puts the lives of it’s neighbors in danger??
