There are some new ways to get in shape for free in the neighborhood. All you have to do is drag your butt off the couch.

The Central Park Circuit consists of two six-week sessions. The spring session runs from May 14 – June 20, and the summer session runs from July 9 – August 15. The hour-long classes are held twice weekly:

Tuesdays: Play Out
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Great Lawn
Meet at Delacorte Theater
(Mid-Park at 80st Street)
Tap your inner drive to play with upbeat strength and cardio conditioning workouts that will encourage you to push your limits.

Thursdays: Bliss Out
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Great Hill
Meet at the plaza at Central Park West and 106th Street
Shift your attitude, clear your mind, and heal your body using yoga-inspired moves.

(Space is limited. Central Park Conservancy members who bring their membership cards are guaranteed a slot in each class. Attendees can continue their workout on their own by following exercises available by video or PDF on the Conservancy’s Web site, centralparknyc.org/circuit.)

– Senior Water Exercise Class: This is for members of the Lincoln Square Neighborhood Senior Center. The classes will begin on May 6 and run every Monday & Weds, 9-10am, through May 22. Seniors can sign up even if they missed the first few sessions. They must be members of the Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center and can sign up through the Center’s nurse, Mary Simmons. She’s at 212-874-0860.
– WETS (Water Exercise Techniques) for Vets class: This will be a holistic mind and body program at John Jay for veterans, who can sign up through John Jay and CUNY. The calss starts on May 17. WETS for Vets is also free. Anyone interested can sign up by contacting Jane through her website, www.drjanekatz.com

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
