For a year, we’ve been waiting to find out what would replace the Gap that closed at 2373 Broadway on the corner of 86th Street. It turns out the spot will stay within the family — the Gap corporate family that is.
Banana Republic, the Gap’s more upscale sibling will open in the 12,245-square-foot corner space early next year, the Commercial Observer reported. The new store is on the ground floor of the 22-story The Boulevard, a 22-story luxury building.
The new Banana Republic will open as a Banana Republic across the street at 2360 Broadway closes.
Thanks to Amy for the tip. See other recent openings and closings here.
A game of musical khakis.
The question now becomes what will go into the space in the Belnord.
Odds on it being a Gap?
Well, that’s anti-climactic!
Power move by the Gap, Inc. people. Now all they have to do is just change the signs. They can leave all the existing inventory in the store and just replace all the price tags with a 50% mark-up and, boom, now it’s a Banana Republic.
But now we have to wonder about 2630 Broadway. Curiosity stays at a constant level for the intersection of W86 & Bway!! No net gain/loss.
