Lenore Skenazy recently made a provocative offer: she’ll charge you $350 so she can not watch your kids while they play in Central Park. It’s a stunt to show that too many parents have over-scheduled their kids, at the expense of unsupervised free play. “It starts Wednesday at the Ancient Playground on 85th St., where Skenazy expects like-minded moms and dads to drop off kids between the ages of 8 and 18…’I’m going to be there at the beginning, but then I’ll be nearby, at a Starbucks,’ she said.” So far, no takers. At a community meeting, NYPD Captain Jessica Corey, who leads the Central Park precinct, dismissed reports (first written about by West Side Rag) of a new crackdown on bicyclists in Central Park, saying enforcement is an “ongoing” initiative. “We’ve always [enforced the law].” Despite a report of a man who received two tickets for a total of $550 for running a red light and failing to yield to a pedestrian, she said that “the vast majority of tickets being issued were for failing to yield to pedestrians, versus failing to stop at a red light.” Bicyclists and others we’ve heard from (including one officer), however, say that enforcement and education initiatives have been stepped up. and now with the homeless shelters on 95th st and lax security, the elderly residents of the senior home are sitting ducks
If the NYPD always enforced the law, that would be great. Let’s start enforcing the laws that motor vehicles ignore, especially speeding. In Central Park, cars speed ALL THE TIME. Come on out with a speed camera and see for yourself.

WHAT COMEBACK?! In some places all you get from the waiter is tongue, or lip! Lip…tongue…it’s all the same!
Customer: “Waiter, what’s this fly doing in my soup?”
Waiter: “How should I know. Do I look like a swimming coach?”
