If you can get out to Central Park on Wednesday, you’ll see a monumental tribute to one of the great artists of our time: a 50-foot-tall painting of John Lennon playing guitar.
Texan artist Eric Waugh made the painting, called “Imagine Again,” for the International Day of Peace. Today is the 45th anniversary of the release of Lennon’s song “Imagine.” The painting will be displayed at the Bandshell in the middle of the park around 72nd Street.
On a website about the painting he wrote:
“It is my hope that people surround the painting and pay tribute to John and his dream for a world without strife, war and conflict. Recent events, at home and abroad, show that John’s vision remains as important as ever.”
See a video explaining how he did it below, and if you go please send us pictures. It will only be up until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
eh
Beautiful! But it looks like the only way to really see it is from a helicopter! 🙁
Very disappointing, as your story led me to think the mural would be displayed vertically. It was difficult to appreciate it laid out on the ground. You’d need a drone to get a proper perspective. Too bad.
I also expected it to be hanging which was silly on my part for a 50 foot painting! Clearly your photo indicates an above shot.
It was difficult to appreciate its beauty and magnitude and many of us tried standing on the park benches. What was interesting and joyful, was meeting this terrific and dedicated artist from Austin and the many others who gather around to chat. Thank you Eric Waugh!
I like that tiny amphitheater, because he danced on the stage for his alter ego in the “Mind Games” video 🙂
What I said. :/
John Lennon was a great person who imagined World peace . You can have peace til you have peace with yoursel
that was lame
some of the WSR comments indicate that Lennon’s song “Imagine” may be about a different place.
