An Upper West Side landlord escaped jail time after pleading guilty to filming tenants in his building on West 82nd street, according to the Post.
Eli Kadoch, 49, was sentenced in Manhattan Supreme Court to one year of therapy and ordered to stay away from both his victims as part of a no-jail plea deal.
In February, the perverted landlord copped to one count of felony unlawful surveillance.
The criminal complaint said there was even footage of Kadoch installing the clock.
The tenant, who didn’t have to pay rent in exchange for doing cleaning and maintenance, also sued Kadoch. “She discovered a USB drive inside that contained more than 70 images of her ‘in intimate and private acts…using the bathroom, in her underwear, naked, and in the act of showering,’ her suit states.”
Ew.
Do his victims still have to pay him rent? Because that seems a little awkward.
The court probably doesn’t have the power to compel him to sell the building. But if I were a victim I wouldn’t want to maintain any relationship with this guy, even a tenant/landlord one.
This dude looks more pathetic than villainous.
I agree with Sherman. This guy is one creepy and sorrowful-looking dude. But to get off with (no charge) therapy is almost like rewarding him. What has happened to NYC? There doesn’t seem to be any sense of justice today.
Not a lawyer here, but it appears that the victim/tenant chose to avoid any embarrassment by not pursuing a more stronger criminal conviction, which allowed him to plea to a lesser complaint solely warranting therapy time and a restraining order. The victim will most likely pursue a civil case and settle out of court for a ‘undisclosed sum.’
One thing for sure . . . we’re not getting all of the story here. And most likely never will.
That’ll teach him nothing! He should be going to jail but he only did it to women so….what’s the harm. This is outrageous.,
There’s a really interesting piece in the current New Yorker by Gay Talese, about a motel owner who spied on his guests for years and years. Really gets inside the guy’s head. ‘The Voyeur’s Motel’
A year of therapy!! How charming!! What a city. Now THIS is a city with a huge heart, right!
This brilliant and caring judge knows that with one year of therapy, we can be certain that this landlord will never do this again!
We, as a country, are officially at the point of accepting this kind of thing happening to us, as long as the “us” is someone else. Are we losing our way or have we lost it?
Get involved and vote for people who are going to show respect for people by voting in judges who respect people. VOTE!
There is more to the story than we know.
Either way, the dude gets a felony on his record for the rest of his life, and his name plastered on the internet. Hopefully the victim will get a nice large settlement as well.
Never mind lack of any real punishment, is anything even illegal in NY anymore?
Actually, I agree 100% with SomethingFishy’s analysis of this situation so I’ll give the judge a break.
Two thoughts:
1. If that guy was my live-in landlord, I would run very, very far away
2. Most people in NY are paying hundreds of dollars an hour for therapy. This guy gets sentenced to get it for free. Not bad…
Gross.
Does the landlord even register as a sex offender?
