A truck on 60th street and West End Avenue on Thursday morning became so unbalanced that it flipped onto its side, spilling dirt all over the sidewalk until it piled up against the door of a school.
Traffic stopped on streets throughout the area until was cleaned up. The closest construction site is Riverside Center about one block North.
“It was stationary too and just flipped because unbalanced load. Good thing no one on sidewalk hurt,” tipster Jeanette told us via twitter.
NBC reported that the truck was backing up over an uneven part of road, and when it flipped it nearly hit a pedestrian. The driver suffered minor injuries, CBS reported.
Jeanette took the two photos below:

Looks kind of like the new building planned for Amsterdam Avenue, in the article below.
omg thats my school
OMG, they cleaned it up!!!
ARE THEY SURE IT WASN’T SOME ATTEMPT AT CONCEPTUAL ART??
Piles of dirt, broken glass, ceramic sunflower seeds (Oy, Wei Wei !), cheap wrapped candies, etc. are big with these “artists,” some of whom wouldn’t know a paint brush from a hairbrush.
THEN AGAIN, since the dirt was dumped in front of a PRIVATE SCHOOL, perhaps this was some sort of political statement by the OWS-DeBlasio types!
Often those massive trucks drive way too fast.
I work at the school where the truck turned on it’s side. Because of hte last batch of Jewish holidays, school was closed Wed-Friday.
I learned from CBS that the incident happened at 8am on Thursday which is arrival time for all three divisions of the school. This accident would have been much bigger had school been in session.
Re: “Often those massive trucks drive way too fast.”
And sometimes they drive way-y-y too-o-o s-l-o-w-w-w.
Most often, though, they drive just right.
