The city has cut its budget to pick up compost from residential buildings, but some greenmarkets are stepping up to take food waste. One on 97th Street is already accepting it, and now the 79th Street greenmarket is also going to take it at 77th Street and Central Park West. It’s open Sundays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Slow but steady, we’re coming back. We won’t be fully back for a long time due to so many people being so casual and cavalier about Covid, but it’s nice to see small aspects of live returning and composting is a great thing! Thanks to the Greenmarkets for picking up the slack on this!
This is good news. Thank you.
I love you, but if you could get this information to us a bit sooner that would be great: e.g. today’s drop-off getting to us late today.
I am so pleased to see that growNY is stepping back into the business of collecting food scraps in two locations on the west side!!
Curbside Composting program accepted animal products like meat and cheese, because , as I understand it, the facilities for the program had special equipment . Will this cause confusion at the green markets that will be accepting compost ?
