Upper West Sider Diane Maas recently let us in on a little secret: the neighborhood has its very own Buddha Tree.
“For years I took the M10 down Central Park West to my kids’ school on 63rd street. Every day we’d make sure to look at the ‘Buddha Tree,’ on west 69th street which we named because there is an image of a seated Buddha clearly visible on the trunk. We’d like to share our good luck tree with the Upper West Side. The Buddha Tree is located on Central Park West and 69th street on the east side of the street. It faces the street (you cant see it from the sidewalk side). From the street sign that says 69th it is 3 trees down. Enjoy and may it bring you good luck!”
Do you have your own special good luck charms in the neighborhood? Let us know!

Oh, oh…
Can you tell us from what plant the intoxicating, fabulous aroma comes from in Riverside Park at this time every year. After sundown the smell envelopes the upper west side and is truly breathtaking.
excuse me – I don’tfollow. The east side of 69/CPW is the park. Is tree on 69 st or on CPW? Is it on the north ;uptown] or south side [downtown] side? Thanks for sharoing – but need clarification, pls.
The tree is located on Central Park West and 69th street on the east side of the street. The Buddha image is only visible from the street. Find sign that says 69 th
Street, and it is 3 trees south. Does this help? If you look atnthe photos I took you will definitely find it. I hope.
The most fragrant tree this time of year is the linden, for Bobbie — it’s a tough street tree but the fragrance is as you describe! It’s wonderful isn’t it.
