A Love Story That Started By Playing ‘Connect 4’ at Dive 75 Leads to an Engagement There Too

Dive 75 is a small dive bar on 75th Street off of Columbus Avenue. For one couple a romance that started there has come full circle — with an engagement over the weekend. Tyler Nazari told us his love story:

“Two and a half years ago my fiancé, Anthony Borges and I met for the first time at Dive 75. I of course was running late and I remember frantically rushing down to the corner of 75th and Columbus just hoping he would still be there. I didn’t really know what to expect. We had a great night playing board games and getting to know each other. He beat me about 20 times in a row at Connect 4. He thought I was letting him win but in actuality I’m just terrible at board games. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be the start of an amazing journey together.

When I was thinking of how I wanted to propose I decided that I wanted to re-create that night that started it all. Of course things are a little different right now and with Dive 75 still closed I had to get creative. I ordered a giant life size connect 4 board with our names on it and with some help from some friends decorated the front of the bar with lights.

It was an unforgettable night. I got down on one knee and asked my best friend to spend the rest of our lives together.”

Congratulations to the happy couple!

thank you for a life-affirming story to start my day. in the midst of all the anger and divisiveness we are experiencing, love still saves the day. let’s hope those in the GOP who want to repeal “same sex” marriage protection won’t succeed.

Very cool.

Read a beach book called “Big Summer” and a viral video was taken at this bar that made the woman a famous influencer.

Tyler, I’m also terrible at Connect 4. I think it’s rigged! But I’m glad your loss led to your gain of a loving partner. Joy to both of you (and I hope your apartment has room for that giant game).

I hate that place–I lived right across the street and the noise it generated, ugh!–but it’s nice to see this wonderful thing happened there.

Congratulations to the couple! My husband and I had our second date at Dive 75 – we played Scrabble. 10 years later he has won 120 times to my 3 or 4.

For all the single people out there – take note: all the Dive Bars are great date bars!
