Sandwiches, margaritas and more are coming to the Upper West Side.
Lenwich sandwich shop is opening on Wednesday at 2565 Broadway (96th Street). This is the 3rd Lenwich in the neighborhood. Thanks to Paul for the photo.
Marlow Bistro has opened at 1018 Amsterdam Avenue (109th), the former home of Bistro 1018. It’s owned by the same people who own Italian restaurant Cibo e Vino on 89th and Broadway. One early Yelp review was promising: “I decided to start off with a burrata appetizer (AMAZING) and their beet salad (WOW), I could sit there for hours and eat this while paring it with one of their wonderful cocktails!” I’ll have what she’s having! Here’s the menu. Thanks to Christina for the tip.
A Mexican restaurant called Patron North is planing to open at 768 Amsterdam Avenue (97th) in the former home of Chicojulio. It will go before the community board for a liquor license next Wednesday, Oct. 26. The original Patron is in Hell’s Kitchen and is known for its margaritas and more. “Any lunch, brunch or dinner, our wait staff heft trays piled high with Corona beer, pina coladas, cocktails, and hustle to your table with platters heaped with Fajitas al Carbon, still smokin’ from the grill. The atmosphere will keep your crowd pleased, serving a huge selection of signature margaritas.”
Another restaurant is also seeking a liquor license at the community board meeting next week. It’s called Boka and would be located at 410 Amsterdam Avenue (79th-80th). It’s not clear if it’s related to the Boka Korean restaurant in the East Village.
Sotheby’s International Realty has opened a real estate office at 2244 Broadway (80th). It used to be Fenwick Keats real estate office, but Sotheby’s bought Fenwick and renovated the office. “As Sotheby’s International Realty’s third office to open in the city, we are thrilled to have a personal presence in the community and encourage those looking to buy, sell, or rent to stop by and meet us.”
The former Bang & Olufsen tech and gadget store on Columbus between 75th and 76th will become a sales office for a nearby condo, Barbara Adler tells us.
Several of the pros from Falene Day Spa, which recently closed its location at 235 West 75th Street, are working at a new office. “Although Feline (Falene Day Spa) has closed its doors after serving its community for more than 28 years a new gem has opened. MedAesthetique is a Medical Day Spa with most of Falene’s Staff.” It’s in Lincoln Towers at 165 West End Avenue, Suite 1H. The number is 646-860-9502.
Amcook Fusion Cuisine on 72nd has closed. Thanks to Sue and others for the tips.
We also hear the former Loehmann’s on Broadway between 73rd and 74th is covered with paper, probably because they’re starting renovations. Last we heard, it was rumored to be turning into a Saks, but if anyone hears or sees any more clues, please let us know.
Good luck to Patron North. No other Mexican restaurant has succeeded in that spot. I think, perhaps, because the price points were too high, considering all the other Mexican food available nearby.
Thank you for reporting these restaurant openings. I’m getting hungry!
I think .Marlow Bistro is 110 and Amsterdam if it replaced Bistro 1018
Marlow is the new spot where Bistro Ten 18 used to be. It must have opened within just the past few days, as there is no signage, no menu in the window, no letter grade, none of that.
Hope the Boka on 79th is related to the East Village one, would love some KFC nearby.
Didn’t Amcook open there recently?
Boy, I was hoping for an Old Navy or a Paragon. Oh well.
A Paragon as in a Paragon sports, or something else? I’d love to have a decent sporting goods store a short trip away in the UWS. I was really unhappy when EMS closed their store, and of course all the Modell’s stores are just miserable places.
o_O
It also looks as if Maje has closed on Columbus
165 West End Ave – I guess we have to check Google Maps to see what the cross street is…
It’s at 67th St on the west side of West End. It’s a Lincoln Towers residential building so I find it odd that a day spa is located inside.
That Lenwich has been “getting ready to open” for over six months; I’m astonished to learn it’s a real thing!
Does any one know if Sun Chan, Broadway between 103rd and 104th, will reopen????
I saw the owner interviewing new waitstaff at SunChan on Tuesday! yay! We will be eating there weekly as soon as they reopen, and I hope others do as well. I cannot even begin to imagine the financial hit they took from ConEds ridiculous foot dragging with their store.
Here’s the website, I used to see Lucyna years ago at Gemayel and Feline.

I also used to go to Feline when it was on Columbus Ave…many many years ago
I always read of firm opposition to any fast food chain opening a store on the UWS, but three Lenwich’s in the neighborhood is somehow OK.
I suspect there are two reasons – one, it is a local chain, not a national one; two, the food is much better than the big fast food chains. I like Lenny’s, in any event, so no objections here.
there’s opposition and there’s Oppo$$ition.
Shame on them for making money and being successful…it’s almost like people in the neighborhood enjoy it.
Go figure.
More rotten food places without excitement.
Amcook Fusion was DREADFUL! Ivy’s Cafe was okay, but I don’t know how you destroy noodles with peanut sauce.
Ciao!
If you ordered selectively from Ivy’s you could enjoy some above average UWS Chinese delivery food. I ordered from them quite often for years. Always fast and pleasant delivery. Unfortunately, it went downhill almost immediately when it morphed into Amcook. I won’t miss them.
Ivy’s had pretty good food, but after Amcook took over, the food was horrible. I used to get lunch specials at Ivy’s and tried Amcook once or twice. It was so bad I never went back and that was years ago. Surprised it lasted this long.
I heard Sephora was moving into the loehmann’s
Spot from their 76th st location. Anyone else hear that?
Can we please get a WESTVILLE restaurant on the UWS. SO many vacant spaces . so many possibilities . I like Lenny’s but certainly not the most exciting option.
YES x1000 to a Westville!!!
The construction at the Astor Apartments at 235 West 75 Street that drove out Faline Spa has been a nightmare for tenants of the 27 remaining rental apartments in the building as the new hedge fund owners convert it to a condo. The demolition and construction have been going on for two years and there is no estimate when it’s going to stop. They are also adding penthouse apartments to the roof. One of them is going to go for $14 million. This in a former SRO that was one of the most neglected and dangerous buildings on the UWS in the 1970s!
I’m with Ken here. I live across 76th Street from the Astor condo reno. I moved into this building 2 years ago and the dust, noise from the drumpsters, the illegal hours of construction and traffic snarls (incl horns, emerg vehicles unable to get through) are unbearable. They have no dust abatement plan, no noise abatement plan. I’ve gone through 10 filters on the A/C on that side of my apt.
Jezebel, I think you should call 311. I’m embarrassed that I hadn’t even considered our neighbors who are going through the same awful construction-related problems as the Astor tenants. You should definitely complain about the lack of a dust-abatement plan.
@Ken – I have, literally about 50 times. From the noise to the dust, the horn honking at dawn due to street blockages, working on weekends and holiday. They’re written citations, made them stop working. And yet nothing ever sticks.
I’m not a fan of LENWICH; their high prices are not in commensurate with the small portion sizes of most of their sandwiches. Nonetheless, I’ll give this one a last chance to impress when it finally opens on 96 St.
