A Citi Bike station was recently relocated to 88th Street near West End Avenue.

A Citi Bike station on 87th Street off of West End Avenue was moved one block North because of construction in the area, the Department of Transportation said. The station will be relocated for two years, according to the agency.

There are substantial construction projects on 87th on both sides of West End, including a Catholic School being turned into condos and this 17-story building.

Thanks to Dan for the photo.

There are 6 townhouses being renovated on 88th street between riverside and west end and con Ed has dug up half the block! I’m sure there was another place the bike rack could be placed. Now the black is always closed off I was told this was a temporary move? Does that mean we wait until St. Agnes school condos are finished what a joke that will be 3 years from now what a shame

Am so bummed that this appeared on W88. Not because of lost parking spots (I don’t care) but because 88th is MORE of a construction zone than 87th right now. Multiple houses are undergoing redevelopment, there are multiple sidewalk sheds, and continuing gas main projects (which was just about to start on the area where they put the bikes) all at once. They even placed it wrong, leaving space between the rack and the end of the block (but lucky for the smart car owner who found it). This would have been much better placed on W86 or Riverside until the gas mains on W88 could be finished—and finally, gasp, paved. Harrumph.

88th Street has been a construction zone for the longest time, and before that it was a movie lot. A sweet residential block has been turned into a hubub of activity. Now we have the bike rack. And lol about the one small parking spot they left. I am hoping my Mini Cooper might fit there too!
PS Scaffolding has mercifully been removed from the building on the NW corner after ELEVEN YEARS!!! Mazl Tov.

I have never even seen that building without scaffolding before. It was quite the bewildering moment.

This was moved because residents of West 87th Street contacted various agencies and asked for an investigation. You can bet that it’s all about pay offs. Unfortunately for the residents of West 88th Street they were not organized.
