A car drove through the fencing of an Upper West Side train station early Monday morning, photos shared with West Side Rag show, and FDNY confirmed.

An Audi crashed through the black fencing outside of the West 72nd Street and Broadway train station and onto the pedestrian plaza around 3:15 a.m., an FDNY spokesperson told the Rag.

“I came upon this scene this morning at 3:55 AM at West 72nd St (I work early mornings),” Brian Merrill Garcia wrote to West Side Rag. “I can’t say how or what happened other than what is obvious in the photo. The tow truck was slowly pulling the Audi away from the impact area. Debris was everywhere. The railing was thrown all the way back over to the subway vent in the middle of the median walkway.”

The FDNY did not have more details on how the car crashed, but did tell the Rag that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

As of Monday at 9:30 a.m., the black fencing was still scattered outside of the West 72nd Street train station, and broken car parts lined the cement.
