West Side Rag is holding a photo contest to give away some Carnegie Hall tickets. We’re looking for nature photos on the Upper West Side (which includes Riverside and Central Parks).

The photos are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday and readers will get to vote online (similar to our previous contest) on Monday from about 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. If you’ve already sent in nature photos in recent weeks, you can resend your favorite for the contest. All entries should have the subject line “photo contest.” One entry per person. Send photos to westsiderag at gmail dot com.

tote bagWe’re partnering with Carnegie Hall to give away tickets to two upcoming events: Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem sung by more than 300 singers and a symphony orchestra and a bluegrass concert. The first-place winner will get to choose which concert he or she would like to attend, while the second-place winner will get the other tickets. Both will also receive a West Side Rag tote bag, which happens to be the hot new item for the summer (we hope to have them available for sale in the not too distant future).

Learn more about the concerts below. Tickets are available for purchase for both events. For the bluegrass event, readers can get a 50% discount by entering the code DCG21214.

VERDI REQUIEM

Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem offer the drama of opera and the thrill of wonderful symphonic writing combined with stellar, virtuosic solo moments. The progression of the piece tells the ultimate dramatic story, from profound loss in the subdued key of A minor at the start to sheer terror at what lies ahead on judgment day. Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and the Distinguished Concerts Singers International perform this piece in a unique and larger-than-life rendition rarely seen on the New York Stage!

A HIGH LONESOME BLUEGRASS MASS

Tickets from $20

Call CarnegieCharge at 212-721-6500 or Visit CarnegieHall.org

Southern hymns and down-home harmonies blend with the traditional instrumental sounds of a bluegrass band to create Come Away to the Skies: A High, Lonesome Mass. This exciting new choral work makes its New York premiere at Carnegie Hall, courtesy of Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International. Composed by Wes Ramsey and Tim Sharp, who’ll be on hand to conduct, the piece is set to be accompanied live by the Chuck Nation Band.

I would like to submit a photo. I should I go about doing so? Should I email my photo? If so, please provide the correct email address.

Thank you
Susan

Any size or other tech requirements? Should the photo be captioned? Do you intend to publish actual names? TIA for guidance?

It should be over 100 kb, but no need to make it too much bigger. If you just want your first name published that’s fine too. A caption isn’t necessary, but feel free to add one.

Do I retain all rights to my photo? Can the photo be from any season or does it need to be recent?
