A fire broke out Tuesday evening on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.
The flames ignited around 6:10 p.m. within a store at 2265 Broadway, between West 81st and 82nd streets, police said. The address is home to both the Excellence Barber Shop and the Jubilee Convenience Inc. & Smoke Shop, but it is unclear as of Tuesday night which business the fire took place in.
The address is also directly next to a Claire’s.
A total of 79 firefighters and EMS members responded to the flames, and were about to have it under control by 6:45 p.m., FDNY said.
One person was injured in the incident, but refused medical attention at the scene, FDNY added.
The Fire Marshall will investigate the cause of the blaze.

While fire is never funny, even when no one is injured, is anyone else amused by the irony of a “smoke shop” going up in flames? Reminds me of the time decades ago when “Tad’s Flame Steaks” on East 86th had a major fire and was forced to close. Apparently, too much “flame” on their steaks.
