It’s part of a full-day celebration of women in the field of lutherie. These pros will talk about the craft, care and concerns of instrument building, the materials and measurements involved, plus they’ll share live musical moments in the Met’s galleries. From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be panels, presentations, demonstrations and musical performances honoring the contributions of women to the fields of musical instrument collecting and making. The daylong presentation is in celebration of Women’s History Month.

New American Ensemble opened its production of Chekhov’s “Ivanov” at West End Theater earlier this week. The show will run through April 5th. The company produces classical theater under the leadership of UWSer Alex Milbrath. “Ivanov” is Chekhov’s first full-length play, and, according to Milbrath, “it explores burnout, disillusionment and mental health” through a protagonist “struggling to understand his inner life, and a community unsure how to respond.”
NYC Half Marathon: Sunday, March 15th, finish line in Central Park at West 68th Street (runners expected to arrive beginning around 8 a.m.)
More than 30,000 runners are expected to cross the iconic finish line for one of the world’s premier half-marathons this Sunday, and it’s in the heart of the UWS. The United Airlines NYC Half is the largest 13.1-mile race in the United States, and this year’s competitive field is stacked, including 27 Olympians and Paralympians. Returning to defend their titles in the men’s and women’s open and wheelchair divisions are Abel Kipchumba and Sharon Lokedi of Kenya, and Geert Schipper of the Netherlands. Defending NYC Marathon champ Hellen Obiri will also compete. It’s too late to get in this year’s race, but you can participate in the event virtually, running 13.1 miles anywhere in the world on race day or before. Or watch as the athletes make their way through Times Square, up Seventh Avenue and into Central Park for the race’s last stretch. Course map here.
